The staff at Antar Ilyone's manor had seen nothing but a flurry of activity and preparation for days before the masquerade that was being held there.  The ball room had been prepared; chandeliers cleaned and refitted with tiny flickering bulbs to simulate candles, marble floors polished to a sheen, and seats positioned along the perimeter of the room along with small tables for any who wished to just sit.  Of course, there was a band set up on the far end of the room.  The adjoining dining room had been opened up and a buffet of appetizers, of all delicacies, had been set up, along with a fully stocked bar.  Glasses and plates were stacked neatly, alongside silver flatware and white linen napkins  White table cloths covered the tables and skimmed the floors, and each table was decorated with white roses and black and teal silk ribbons.  Off of the ballroom, the terrace was also opened up, with similar seating, and tall torches lit along the railings.  Luckily it was a warm evening, and the forecast was for clear skies and mild temperatures.

Antar, having worked nearly all day in Theed, had left the last minute preparations to his daughter, Ilanah.  Of course, nearly the entire staff knew what to do for such an event, as it was not the first he had held at the Estate, but it certainly would be the grandest to date.  He, himself, took the time once he arrived home to shower and get presentable (as if he wasn't always); and dressed in a black silk tuxedo and white tie, with silver cufflinks that were a gift from his late wife on their wedding day.  He always wore the same ones.  He cleared his throat and straightened his lapels and retrieved a black mask from his dressing table, keeping it in his hand for the moment, before he exited the room to find his daughter.  Certainly, their guests would have already started arriving, and he could hear music beginning to play downstairs.

Down the hall, he raised a hand and tapped lightly on Ilanah's bedroom door.  "Ilanah?  Are you about ready? Our guests have started arriving."  He wasn't harsh in his tone, but firm.  It was obvious how much he cared, though emotion was hard for him to show since Renea's passing.  When she didn't answer, he tapped again, louder this time.  "Domnhail said you invited a young man."  He said, making an attempt to start up a conversation through the thick wooden door.  "I am anxious to meet him, certainly."  Still, no answer from the girl.

"Oh for the love of the Force...." Ilanah groaned when she heard the familiar rap on her door. She ignored it for the moment, and simply went back to arranging the raven curls that fell over her bare shoulders delicately. Her locks were half pulled up, secured with a silver and diamond clip that had belonged to her mother, the rest remained in large, barrel curls that hung well past her shoulder blades.

She was already laced into her gown, a black strapless number that hugged her figure tightly and them flared out in floor length, ruched silk. The knock came again, along with Antar's declaration that he knew she had invited someone. Domnhail, of course, was the blabber. Nosey bitch. With a sigh, she finally got up in one graceful movement and affixed the black and rhinestone encrusted half mask over her eyes as she went.

As she opened the door, Ilanah forced a realistic smile and looked up at her father. "Hello, Daddy. Glad you made it home safely. And yes, I did invite someone. I hope you don't mind." In the back of her mind, she knew he wouldn't. Kal seemed, from the little she knew of him, that he was a good man. He was a Jedi, so he had to be, right? She pushed herself up onto her toes and kissed his cheek delicately before she paused and straightened his tie. At the moment, she was a loving daughter, and she took his arm to walk downstairs with him.

The Ilyone estate and the ball had been the talk of quite a number of high functionaries and well-to-do people that Rex had spoken to during his brief time on Naboo. Antar Ilyone, close adviser to the Queen, was also a man Rex wanted to meet personally. Antar, it was said, had a close friendship with a certain Mayor of New Centrif; Cambrist by name. Cambrist, in turn, owned Chommell ImpExp, a trade business that Rex, as a trade baron, was rather interested in acquiring. In truth, Chommell ImpExp was small time by Rex's standards; it was the simple fact that Rex had come to the Chommell Sector with the intent of expanding and Cambrist, unfortunately, had the honor of owning a business small enough that Rex wanted to possess it as a stepping stone. Antar Ilyone, Rex hoped, might well be the key to assisting that.

Gerard Rex came to the Ilyone Estate in a repulsor limo, dressed in his traditional finery plus a mask of blue and purple; he was not alone, either. His beautiful assistant, Alle, a woman of many dark talents, was with him as well. Assistant and bodyguard, Rex mused as he studied her. "I want you to mingle and have a good time tonight," he told her as the limo came to a stop. "Make some new friends and act as if you are nothing more than my secretary, as always. Above all, listen. People tend to talk when the alcohol flows."

Wearing a dress was not her favorite thing in the galaxy to do, but when she had to, Mr. Rex always made sure that she wore something simply stunning that showed off her figure. This time it was a striking plum-hued silk that clung to every curve. Of course, she knew her role. Alle always did, and she played the part to absolute perfection. What he didn't know, was that she had already done some research regarding Antar Ilyone, which might end up helping him with what he needed to accomplish in their time on Naboo.

"Having a good time is not usually synonymous with working, sir." Alle said as she toyed absently with one of the loose platinum curls that hung over her bared shoulders. She was teasing him, of course. Her work was her first and only love, and she usually enjoyed every moment of it.

It wasn't a slick black limo, or even a sporty speeder that was pulling up.  No, it was a simple taxi.  The passenger would lean forward, handing the driver enough credits to cover the charge and a pretty decent tip.  As the taxi would stop, the man in the back, dressed completely in black, would open the door and climb out, looking up at the manor.  It was a stunning place.  He would turn his attention back to the doorway, one that was open, allowing guests to enter in.  There were several people ahead of him, all dressed up and sporting a mask of some sorts.  He'd reach down into his pocket, pulling out a black bandana like mask.  It was simple, having two holes that were created for him to be able to see out of.  It matched his slim black suit and black tie.

Upon entering into the foyer, Kal would take a quick look around, trying to see if he was able to spot Ilanah already.  As a waiter passed by, holding a try of drinks, Kal would reach up, grabbing one for himself.  He'd take a small sip, savoring the flavor of the liquor.  He looked down at the glass, pleased with the quality of alcohol that was provided.  He wasn't such a good guy, that he had perceived the first night he met Ilanah.  He moved into the ball room, where he could hear music coming from.  There were plenty of other people already in there, all mingling with each other, as if they all knew one another.  Kal stood there, watching.  Amused at the high class crowd that was attending the function.  Soon, he would find Ilanah.

Antar walked down the steps, taking care of the fullness of the raven gown his daughter wore.  He looked at her once they reached the bottom of the staircase, his eyes full of concern.  He had heard more than one rumor, of course, regarding Ilanah, but he refused to believe them.  His daughter, his baby girl, wasn't the person that he had seen in the tabloids.  Certainly not, especially since she looked so well and so happy.  That was Antar's problem.  He refused to believe, and he would continue to do so.

"I have some people that I need to talk with, Ilanah.  Enjoy yourself, and save a dance for your old dad later?"  He requested as he released her arm.  "Oh and bring that young man by to meet me once you find him."  The second part was not a request, and she would know that.

Antar turned on the heel of his leather-soled shoe and wandered off into the accumulating crowd to greet and mingle with guests.  The whole while, his assistant stayed hot on his heels to help with introductions to people he did not know right off.

The problem with masquerades, were the masks.  It was difficult, if not impossible to discern who was who behind a mask, and in a dimmed room where the alcohol was flowing freely and without regard.  She scanned the foyer, then the ballroom in her descent down the stairs.  Of course she wouldn't be able to pick Kal out in a crowd.  It was likely that she wouldn't recognize him if he was standing right in front of her.  They had only met the one time, and she was half stoned out of her mind at the time.  Ilanah thought she might, and only might, recognize him because of his piercing blue eyes.

"Sure, Daddy.  Of course.  Anything you want."  She gave him another sincere smile before he walked off and she peeled off in the other direction.  As a waiter passed, Ilanah plucked a glass of champagne from the tray, which she was technically too young to drink, but her father allowed it all the same, especially at formal functions held in the house.  He assumed one glass wouldn't hurt her.  As she sipped the liquid, she looked through the hidden faces for familiar eyes.  It was a sea of dark tailored suits and fancy gowns, all business contacts of her fathers and their spouses (or girlfriends....or mistresses), she mused as she found a lack of individuals she could even begin to recognize.

Once the crystal glass was empty, she put it onto another passing tray and wove her way between people, graciously accepting compliments or saying hello when she was spoken to.  Ilanah stopped at the doors to the balcony, standing in the doorway between the spaces as she gazed outside.  He probably didn't come anyway, she thought, and she couldn't blame him if he did not.  Who really would have wanted to?  She knew one person who would have, had he been invited.  Cycerin.  She pushed the thought from her mind and rested her hand on the door frame for just a moment before she turned to go back into the ballroom.

There were those who'd arrived at the ball with less than honorable intentions; much darker intentions than most of Naboo held. Arriving in a rented repulsorlimo (the driver of which had been quite thoroughly bribed, as well as a touch of Persuasion), contained none other than Jericho Novak, freshly (more or less) returned from his jaunt to Klatooine. Novak did owe Nisko a job well done, and he's been more than a little worried that the perfect opportunity, the Ilyone Ball, would be done with before he could return. Thankfully, the nick of time had been in his favor and he'd made it with just enough room to spare.

Novak had come under the guise of 'Lord Darren Orlando,' a minor, minor, minor noble from the Necr'ygor System whose wealthy father sold Necr'ygor Omic wine; in short, he was there to party while freeloading off his father's hard-earned money. Despite Naboo not likely to be a place rife with Jedi, Novak wore a Taozin amulet, which would mask him from any sensing by any Jedi who might or might not be lurking about; more often than not, it was a common piece of useful ornamentation he wore to prevent further problems.

Now, dressed in dark finery and splendor and wearing a nondescript mask of golden hue, he made his way in; Lord Orlando at his finest. Finding Ilanah Ilyone would be a bit of a task, but he intended to find her by finding her father.

"I am quite sure that if anyone can pull it off, it would be you," Rex said as he stepped from the limo and offered Alle his arm. She'd been with him for some time now, well on ten years and was the closest thing to a friend he had. Grendel Rex had no real friends, for the most part; only sometime allies, enemies and people who could be used. Of all those about him in a direct capacity, only she knew the true scope of his Pius Dea intentions and the lengths he'd go to for a trade takeover; she should know, after all. She'd been a part of his work. Seduction and murder went hand in hand, at times.

""Tonight, dearest, keep your eye on the prize, and we'll gain even more wealth."

Alle took his arm and smoothed her free hand over the fabric draped over her hip.  "Of course....darling...."  She murmured, just giving him a bare glance from the corner of her eye.  She wouldn't argue with him about gaining more wealth, certainly. He did sign her "paychecks" after all.  The term of endearment wasn't, in fact, endearing at all, but a bit of a cover since they were within earshot of the two men checking invitations at the door.  Of course, she had secured one for them, descreetly.  Alle produced the heavy linen card that granted the pair of them entrance to the ball.

For the moment, she would stick close by, until she decided it best to break off and mingle.
