| Is there some reason that this surprises you? A Calamari can celebrate whatever holiday he wants, and it so happens that Life Day is a widely-celebrated holiday among many species.

| I realize that you can celebrate whatever holiday you want, Senator. I just supposed that Life Day wouldn't have as much relevance for the Calamari as it does for Humans and other mammalian species. Its origin on Kashyyyk and its "Tree of Life" symbolism are very, well, terrestrial. And though I do celebrate the diversity of the many species of this Republic, it also seems to me there are perhaps no more opposite species than Calamari and Wookiees.

| And here I'd hoped that Life Day would pass without the Chancellor saying something ignorant and offensive. How naive I was. Calamari are what you chauvinistically call a "humanoid" species, and we have about as much in common with Wookiees as you Humans do. To say that Life Day—originally a Wookiee holiday—is somehow more relevant to Humans than to Calamari is absurd. A "tree of life" is a symbol, and there is plenty of aquatic vegetation on Dac that can also symbolize the values of Life Day (never mind the fact that most of the Life Day "trees" I've seen here on Coruscant are holographic).

| Senator, let's go back and just leave it at "happy Life Day," shall we?

| While the proposal has already been passed, shouldn't we form a committee to do what we call "iron out the details"? This way we may have a much clearer conception of slavery and how we can do combat the slavery that may still resides in the parts of the Republic as well as the other parts of the galaxy?

| If you'd like to form a study group along these lines, Senator Onasi, you're welcome to do so. In the meantime, I think the Senate is ready to move on from this legislation.
