Supreme Chancellor, "my" droid is an Employee, he is recognized under Alsakan Law as an Accredited Sentient Construct after having passed a series of sentience tests, he has citizenship on our world. I must demand that you show some respect to a being who is not just the product of sentience, he is sentience.

Senator Terrawin, I confess you've lost standing in my eyes, allowing a droid to speak openly in the Senate forum. Whether or not it is recognized under Alsakan law, Alsakan does not dictate the policy or rules of the Senate. Chancellor, I move that the words of the droid be stricken from the record and that, in the future, Senator Terrawin be asked to control his droid.

Gentlemen!!! We are the Galactic Republic!!! We are the body of freedom in this galaxy! If we start censoring droids from being allowed to speak, what else are we going to censor?!! I move to keep the droid's comments on record and would like to offer Senator Terrawin my thanks and sincere appreciation for the knowledge his droid has presented us in these chambers!! We all would do well to remember that freedom is one of the basic values of this GREAT REPUBLIC!!!!

The droid's "views" aren't being censored because it has none. It is simply repeating the views it has probably overheard in Senator Terrawin's parlor. Senator, we're all aware of Alsakan's strange and contrarian views on "droid rights." You've had your fun, now can we return to the subject at hand? I see no reason why this resolution shouldn't pass as long as the term "crime against civilization," with its many historical and legal connotations, is removed. Senator Lekpin?

Aside from the rather disturbing scene a moment ago, I will Withdraw my proposed amendment, and submit my vote In Favor.

As Senator Kongming has withdrawn his proposed amendment, I see no further issues. Senator Kruus' rhetoric is, as we are used to, full of judicial-related ties, traps and jargon that does not directly affect the passing of this resolution. We're all learned men here, Gentlebeings. How hard is it to endorse an act that condemns slavery? It's not as if I am asking all of you to throw in to an anti-slavery fleet. Lorrd already has an Anti-slavery Society, after all.

Roman Lekpin
Former Senator, Lorrd (100 BBY-92 BBY)
Chosen of House Garth

What do you determine anti-slavery to mean Senator Lekpin?

Define slave for me. Surely the term must mean all sentient beings held in bondage against their will when not as the result of serving a sentence under criminal law?

Then why is a Droid not a slave, if he is recognized as sentient? Answer me this.

I have a problem with Section 3, as I mentioned a moment ago. The problem hasn't been addressed, so Metellos votes against.

And so it appears the vote is tied.

I see the Chancellor's point about Section 3. It's a point that Senator Kruus mentioned too. But at this point, I think we can infer from Senator Lekpin's silence that, for whatever reason, he doesn't intend to change it. That being the case, how can we move this resolution along? Let us remember that it is a resolution—an expression of the will of the Senate, but not a law. That is, it's not legally-binding. So even if I'm not comfortable with the wording of Section 3, I feel I can still vote in favor of this resolution as a statement against slavery, imperfect though it is.

I do this mainly in the interest of moving Senate business along. My sector celebrates Life Day this week and I would like to conclude our business here and return to Dac.

Very well, then. The measure passes with 62% in favor and 38% opposed. And happy Life Day, Senator Finbar. I didn't know the Calamari celebrated it.
