The Senate session had closed for the day, and Demaron found himself seated outside the offices belonging to the Supreme Chancellor, waiting. Despite the long day, the Lorrdian senator managed to look just as presentable as when he'd stepped from his apartment that morning. It was a trick of the trade, to always appear one's best at any possible time while during the day, for one could never say when the call could come to attend some sort of meeting or planning session. Being newly confirmed within the Senate, Demaron's nights were already being consumed by varied meetings, whether in person or via Holonet as he strove to undo any damage his predecessor had done and draw the planets of the Kanz Sector into a closer alliance as neighbors and partners.

Nonetheless, when the Chancellor requested a meeting, one didn't simply turn him down, and so, Demaron waited.

The freshman Senator was shown in politely and the Chancellor would stand and offer him a gesture of greeting. "Senator Torres, welcome to the Galactic Senate! May I ask how you are today?" he looked the Lorrdian over, the man lacked the traditional pale Lorrdian complexion, he indeed resembled an Alsaka Sector native.. human intermixing, Kruus supposed was to blame. "Tell me, what did you do before you were Senator for Lorrd? I am sure you will be a vast improvement upon the last incumbent." he said taking his seat and examining the man with his piercing reflective insectoid eyes.

Demaron returned the gesture, then took a seat, if offered. If not, he would stand with his hands clasped behind his back. "I am well, Chancellor, if occupied with a number of items that it seems require constant attention. Nonetheless, the work is quite rewarding. Prior to my current position, I served four years in the Lorrdian defense forces. After resigning my commission, I worked as a trade representative for House Volmen and then, later, for Lorrd itself. After Mr. Lekpin's... issues, I was a prime candidate for Senator and beat out both House Garth and House Stark's candidates."

Demaron fell silent, feeling that he'd presented enough of his credentials.

He would indeed be offered a seat and his choice of beverage. "Where are you from on Lorrd? I've never visited myself but I am told it can be climatically quite extreme in some regions... Rather as there are other sorts of extreme proximate to Lorrd..." he said turning his head slightly away as a speeder came closer to the window "Don't you think it would be safer for all if the Hegemony was brought under Republic Suzerainty, it'd allow you to not have to pay quite so much of your budget for your fleet I presume is meant to be able to show this traditional regional rival that you've got teeth too if they decide to play the wolf?"

Having taken the seat, Demaron politely declined the offer of a drink. He was not much for alcohol, even in the best of times, and he'd been through several glasses of water prior to his arrival. "I am from New Shallos, actually, though perhaps New, New Shallos would be more appropriate, seeing as it was built upon the ruins of the original New Shallos. It's more of a cold region than some areas; Lorrd is largely sand and ice, where there isn't snow."

The Chancellor came quickly to the crux of the reason he'd called Torres there, though. "While the Ciutric Hegemony could benefit from having its foreign affairs overseen by the Republic, the question is why they'd accept such an arrangement. To my knowledge, they've functioned alongside the Republic without major issue. While Axxila would be likely better under Republic oversight, the only major boon would be from Ciutric IV due to their shipyard and situation along the trade routes.

"Lorrd's fleet, however, has little to do with the Ciutric Hegemony. Rather, we've seen its importance in defending against future terrorists such as Kerubiel, or to aid our neighbors. The Kanz Sector has become a tighter-knit group over time. Whether you look at the different intermarriages or the trade pacts or mutual defense pacts... well, an issue coming from the Hegemony isn't likely. Besides, that fellow Kadram who works for the Techno Union just married into one of their families, didn't he? No doubt he can keep a rein on them."

"Because they're now under a Duke who is more likely to come to terms... and because I don't want hyperlanes dominated by notionally neutral powers.. This is a Galactic Republic and I don't want regions of it at the beck and call of powers who's loyalty is unknown." he smiled at the mention of Kadram, a being to whom he had nothing but antipathy after the destruction of one of his progeny "Yes... The Emir and indeed Duke of the Hegemony is.. worried that recent actions may have incurred the displeasure of the Republic, and so would be willing to come to terms.. thanks in part to a strong Lorrd to the Galatic North and the potentially expensive foes they could make to their Galactic East aross the trade lane."

"I believe they will accept becoming an Allied Region with little fuss. Especially if a Lorrdian delegate underlines the statement implicit in the bulk of the craft the Embassy will take to their Capital world... They wouldn't become members too easily, but for fear of being left behind in an era where even the Mandalorians are an Allied Region, I believe the Hegemony would accept this type of Allied Status in order to allow it to open up to Republic Contracts and Business..." he smiled slightly "I'd like you to join one of my sons in a mission to the Hegemony and secure them becoming an Allied Region, if it requires granting them some concessions such as limited autonomy from our law etc then I would approve such an arrangement. Ultimately its their quiescence I require and am willing to be flexible on the terms.. You'll have a PR boon at home for bringing it about, plus Lorrd gains the security of knowledge that the Hegemony is obliged to be its friend and not pose a military threat to it, the Republic gains a more secure and stable trade lane and your career is advanced significantly. A Great Gain for all involved, no?"

Demaron crossed his left leg over the right, considering. The Chancellor was proposing much in few words. The Ciutric Hegemony and the Mandalorians becoming clear allies with the Republic? Oh, it would strengthen and serve to unify the Republic, certainly, but the downsides were there as well. "From my studies, Chancellor, it strikes me that if you extended a peaceful branch to the Mandalorians, you would lose support in your own home. My predecessor sought to bring the Mandalorians into a better relationship with the Republic and Senator Tu'Rot vehemently disagreed. The question becomes, do you want to add new allies at the cost of alienating those who are already on your side?"

Serving as an envoy to the Hegemony would look good on his career record, especially if the Hegemony entered into the Republic proper; the worry of Ciutric posing a military threat was not such to Lorrd that it was a major issue which Torres considered. "I suppose it could have moderate benefits. Nonetheless, I'd tread cautiously. I'm familiar with what Mr. Kadram... inflicted... upon one of your... well, line. I'm not too eager to see the same thing happen to myself."

"The Mandalorians are an Allied Region... I don't intend to push the relationship from where it stands in all honesty, but I would like to make the Hegemony an Allied Region too, bring them inside the tent and negotiate for them to minimize their military spending and focus it on efficient ends i.e. forces able to help the Judicials etc in anti-Pirate uses, not warfleets. I don't believe anyone aside from myself has a debatable greivance with the Hegemony... and I have set aside my personal feelings for the greater good of the Republic.." he tapped his fingers on the desk thinking of his poor son underground reconstructive treatment with it still being unlikely he would ever fit into society again.

"You'd be diplomatically immune, on a Republic Diplomatic craft, with Judicial and other escort craft in tow. Personally you'd be escorted by Judicial Special Tactics Troopers aboard the escort craft and a delegation of Senate Guard aboard your own diplomatic craft. As I say, I will be dispatching another of my sons on the mission. Is it likely I would knowingly put another of my progeny in risk when I am controlling the situation? No it is safe I simply wish for you to mediate and negotiate them downgrading their military to a cap of no more than 300m in length for any ship, as an informal barometer. I wish them to be encouraged to use Corvettes and Frigates but abandon larger warcraft which can only be described as that, War Craft. No indeed. I wish them to be encouraged with the trade benefits of abandoning the threatening and hard nosed front they have given the region for the last few centuries and embrace an open and defensive image for their fleet..."

Considering what the Chancellor had said, Torres nodded. "Very well, Chancellor. Ideally, they will be taken well enough with the proposed plan, and having two delegates there will reinforce the seriousness of the Republic in this venture. I can be ready to depart in a week's time. It will be beneficial if I have contact with whomever you are going to send with me to be able to better make our case to the Hegemony."

Commodore Vaughn of the Judicial Forces has a mandate to extend to you an escort sufficient to protect you, if you require extra vessels from Lorrd (if it can spare them) you may bring them, if you do not Humbarine or the TDF could perhaps lend you some craft?
