Little perturbed Vorn, even as he walked through the shambled ruins of the building, with debris scattered about; signs of time and ruin evident in all things. It did not perturb him that the floor he was slightly below ground, or that is was only four floor above an ancient, active and unstable reactor. It did not perturb him him that the reactor was wired with more than enough explosives to breach its core and result in a massive explosion, or, for the fact, that those same explosives were daisy chained to two other reactors throughout the area that were in an equal state. It did not perturb him that the combined explosion would level several hundred thousand meters. In his mind, there was no excuse to allow something possibly dangerous to escape. It did not escape his mind, though, that the laboratory was well hidden from sensors; to detect it from orbit would be an impossibility; to detect it by flyover would be practically as improbable, even to the best of sensors. Still, having a well-camouflaged laboratory was paramount to good research, especially if it were a project that was not ready to be revealed to the rest of the galaxy.

Walking along the passageway, strewn with rubble, Vorn halted before what appeared to be an inert door, thirty-two centimeters thick and armored. Moving to one side, he shifted some carefully piled rubble to reveal, down low, the door's control. Punching in his correct access code, he shifted the rubble back to cover the console while the door cycled open. Entering the small area beyond, he faced an identical door, as well as several holocams set in the ceiling. Ignoring the concealed laser emitters on either side of the wall, dormant for the moment, he stated his access code to the holocams. "Vorn two-two-seven." After several moments, the inner door cycled open to reveal a neat and tidy set of rooms, eight in all, that were filled with a myriad of equipment for experimentation; computers showing dozens of readouts and, in two of the rooms, a small sleeping area offset by refreshers and an eating space.

Within the structure, six Arkanians and two Yaka were working diligently on their respective parts of of the project. Once Vorn had entered, one of the Yaka broke off and approached him. "Temek, how are you and the others getting along? How fares the work?" Temek's expressionless face was at odds with the amusement in his deep voice when he replied. "Nobody likes working underground, but with the equipment and small numbers, we've managed to get by efficiently enough. Walk with me, and I will show you what we've managed."

Vorn and Temek began their tour of the small laboratory, with Temek pointing out their advancements and setbacks here and there. "We've managed to prevent the spread to organic parts, which is our major breakthrough. The problem, however, is that the delivery system doesn't replicate quickly enough. We can arm it in conventional weapons; mines, torpedoes, solid slugs and so forth, but the actual time of infection to negation is what we need to improve. That's... become our major block." Through the labs they went, ending the tour at the main doors.

"You've done well, Temek. Continue your work on breaking that final barrier. Keep testing, but don't draw too much attention in your subjects." With a final good-bye to the rest of the researchers, Vorn departed the way he'd come, content that the project was continuing on schedule.

"And what news do you have today?" Temek's baritone seemed to boom off the test chambers in the laboratory as Vorn greeted him with an amused grin "You're looking at the new Minister of Science, old friend." One of Temek's eyebrows raised in amusement, as if Vorn were telling a joke, then the Yaka's face went blank as he realized Vorn was quite serious. "So the Chancellor put you into the position, even as new as you are?"

Vorn chuckled and shook his head. "He threw some bastard Colicoid into the Vice Chair's spot, and he's been tossing out positions like candy. With as many senators who have been withdrawing from the Senate or resigning, I'm sure he wants to keep what he has left. Won't be much of a Senate under this windbag, I think. He's all about expansion and extending friendship. He's even promised me the funding to set up a facility on Ord Wylan."

"Ord Wylan... rings a bell. Recently belonging to the Pius Dea and before that, one of the Hutts?"

"The very same. Apparently the slug cut a deal to free all the slaves of the Cygnus Empire in exchange for getting some favorable terms from the Republic. I'm to deliver them myself."

Temek snorted this time, then shook his head. "Well, I feel sorry for the Hutt. Come, though, see what we've been working on." Ushering Vorn over to a nearby containment area that had been set up, taking up half of one room, Vorn and Temek watched the sole occupant, a badly battered and dented pit droid that looked well past its prime and had a number of bladed additions and extra pieces of scrap metal haphazardly welded to itself. The droid was alternately running in circles and throwing itself at the thick, reinforced tranparisteel in an effort to claw its way out towards the pair watching it.

Moving to a small console near the side of the transparisteel, Temek accepted a heavy gray vial from one of the other researchers. Plugging it in to a nearby pump, he activated the pump and moved back to stand beside Vorn. Up high on the ceiling, a few wisps of what appeared to be gas entered the room, dissipating after a some brief moments. Alternately watching the droid and his wrist chronometer, Vorn waited. Two minutes passed, then three, then five and it wasn't until almost ten that the droid suddenly stiffened, it's vocabulator giving a terrible screech. It sparked briefly from its cortical processor and then fell over, still.

"Not bad, not bad, my friend," Vorn said at last. "I assume the delay was because of the form of distribution?"

"Well... not quite. Direct delivery halves the time, but we're still working on it."

"I need an effective time of under one minute, Temek."

"You'll have it."
