| A caesarian had been the best option for the Fowlkes to have their child. Jalaila had been ill enough during the last weeks of pregnancy that it was the safest for her, and the baby, and she had made the decision with Tremaine's full support. Tristan Oliver Fowlkes was born on a rainy Telos IV Friday morning, and Jalaila was doing well. Well enough, in fact, that they all went home only a couple of days later.
While Jalaila was settling in comfortably, to her, Tremaine seemed like he was uncomfortable and unsure. She could have been reading into it, of course, but she wondered if he was unhappy with this new life, this new path. Or maybe, she thought, he just needed a new path of his own.

| The Telosian was uncomfortable and unsure, Jalaila was correct in assuming a such body language. She had grown to know her husband well, but even she couldn't read his mind. It wasn't the fact that he was uncomfortable with his wife and the new baby. It was the fact he was unsure about where the current stance in his life would be. Tremaine was wholeheartedly joy about Tristan popping into both of their lives. However, he wanted the very best for Jalaila and Tristan. The man was not sure whether his current agenda, one that only Jalaila knows about, would still be right for the family as a whole. Tremaine did not have time to talk to Jalaila about this, with the first two days intensely focused upon ensuring that his new son was settling in comfortably fresh out of Jalaila's womb.
Tremaine would walk into the recently-finished nursery, with Jalaila soothing the baby in her arms by the rainy window. The first move he had done was to plant a kiss on her lips, of which he always loved doing so. Then he planted another kiss on Tristan's forehead. "Hey, babe. How's our son doing?" He simply asked, as the man looked out the window.

| Jalaila turned her unsual topaz gaze to Tremaine and forced a small smile. "He's alright. He won't go down for his nap though, and he just cries every time I lay him down." She said softly as she rocked back and forth, from one foot to another, gently. "I've tried everything I could think of." She was hoping that Tremaine might offer to take their son so that he could try to soothe the child. Of course she wouldn't ask, though, because she didn't want him to be uncomfortable.
"Something has been bothering you, Tremaine. I can tell. I wish you would tell me what it is. Maybe I could help." Jalaila said quietly, as she continued to try and rock Tristan so that he would fall asleep.

| Tremaine did not hesitate to take Tristan out of her arms, "Let me take him." He would gently put the baby on his shoulders, in an attempt to get him to fall asleep. The Telosian would continue to pat on the boy's back gently, rocking his occupied arm gently. Indeed, Jalaila had come to known him very well throughout their marriage. He was grateful for that, because chemistry is one of the most important pieces in a successful relationship. That's what Tremaine had believed, anyway. He would rock Tristan for several quiet moments before he finally opened up to Jalaila.
"Yes, something have been gnawing at me." He cleared his throat, in am attempt to keep Jalaila's attention upon Tremaine. This time around, it would probably be a little difficult because Tristan was a newborn baby. "Don't get me wrong, marrying you and bringing Tristan into my life are two of the happiest things that had ever happened to me but..." Tremaine paused a brief moment in an attempt to put the right context into his professional life. "Well, I'm trying to say that I'm not satisfied with my current work life now that we've begun a family."

| For a very tense second, Tremaine's incredibly tired wife worried that the 'but...' that he had just said was going to turn into 'but....I need a different life without a wife and a baby'. But that was just her exhaustion playing with her mind. She almost breathed a sigh of relief when he mentioned his work. Jalaila would watch Tremaine with Tristan and smile only slightly as the baby finally started to fall asleep. "If it is your work that is causing you headache or worry, then you should change it, Tremaine. You are intelligent and resourceful, and I know that you can do absolutely anything that you set your mind to. I have seen it." She said before she offered to take Tristan so she could lay him in his bassinet.
"What can I do to help?"

| Tremaine turned to look at Jalaila, gently handing Tristan over to his wife. Then he began to smile when the lady began to speak optimistic of Tremaine. He had forgotten how optimistic Jalaila can be at times. That is what he needed, sometimes. "You really think so?" The Telosian had asked Jalaila, "Well, I don't know what I should do. I mean, it was different when we weren't having a kid. Now, it is. I'm not sure whether my secret agenda would do us any good if the Republic mistaken me for a rogue vigilante and decided to arrest me. That means growing up without a father, or at least a father that pops in and out of his life. I don't want that for our son." Indeed, he was willing to sacrifice something for his son...to a point. Tremaine also wasn't sure if being completely out of action would do him good.

| She turned away from him so that she could lay Tristan down. Jalaila was very optimistic, but she also wondered sometimes how happy Tremaine actually was. "I know that.....Tristan is a big adjustment for you, for us, actually, but..." She was speaking carefully as she thought about what she wanted to say. "It does not mean that you have to give up any dream you have. Neither of us do. People have babies all the time and life carries on." Jalaila said before she ushered Tremaine from the room and closed the nursery door before they would wake Tristan.
"I think that, as I said before, you should work with the Republic, Tremaine. Independent contractor or something like that."

| The Telosian nodded at Jalaila, moving with his wife away from the room so Tristan could sleep in peace. Jalaila actually have had a good advice for the man, "You're right. I just can't help but think that I should balance my life between Tristan and my work. I want to be the very best father I can be without being away for work too much." Tremaine cleared his throat once again, as to indicate he wasn't finished speaking. "Then again, I have had the urges to take a blaster rifle and bolt into action now and then. Independent contractor does sound like a good idea, but I don't know if it's what I want just yet. I'd love more of those wonderful advices you like to hand out."
The Telosian did not know what to do with his professional life at the moment, but it didn't stop him from smiling at Jalaila without any reason whatsoever.

| Jalaila nodded as she dropped into a comfortable chair in their own bedroom. "You will find the balance you want. I know that it seems like a lot happening right now, but Tristan is only a couple of days old, and it will get better and easier in a few weeks. I promise." She said. "And once he is old enough, we can come with you if you need to travel, you know." Jalaila suggested calmly. "So you won't have to worry about balancing too much."
The woman yawned softly and thought quietly for several moments. "Tremaine, I know you like being in the thick of things, but it doesn't really seem sensible, does it?"

| Tremaine would move into their own bedroom, and nodded at Jalaila just as she was sitting down on her favorite chair. "Good point. I guess we should give it some time." He was putting faith into Jalaila's reassurance that everything would work out. Then he chuckled lightly when she said it didn't make sense if he liked to be in combat, "Well, it's hard to explain. I'll try my best. Sometimes, when you're in combat, that's when you're most relaxed in a way. It's when you're able to keep your mind simple, not thinking about too many things at once. You just...act." Tremaine was trying to explain why he liked being in combat sometimes, even though it may be very dangerous.
