The Cygnus Fleet assembled at the edge of the Ord Wylan system and signaled to their Mandalorian mercenary army which ought already to be underway. The Cygnus Force was (unusually) lead by Jamulon Desilijic Tiure himself in his new Corona-class Frigate, flanked on either side by two Emperor Jamulon-class Cruisers (Resolute-class) and with their Alderaanian War Frigate and an Etti-class Corvette immediately to the rear of the round Corona-class ship. Naturally as was par for the course the Resolute-class ships jammed the Planetary hypercomms frequencies.

They opened comms to Ord Wylan, still several AU distant. "Invaders of Ord Wylan, surrender now and your lives will be spared, fight the Most Corpulent Jamulon Bey and you will be given no quarter. Each and every invader will be killed. Take not my words lightly, for I mean this, every one of you will die if you do not surrender."

The Huttese Council detachment sent in support of their Emperor came out of hyperspace some minutes later forming up on the left flank of the formation already assembled. Adding 1 Maurauder-class Corvette and 3 Citadel-class Civilian Cruisers to the assault forces present.

Now to wait and see how late the Mandalorians might be.

They may have been running late, but they were worth the wait. Alongside the Cygni formation, a Mandalorian Carrier and two Crusader-class Corvettes dropped out of hyperspace and took a complementary formation. Akaan'alor Tak Vizsla stood at the bridge of the Kot, the Mandalorian Carrier, and he hailed the Cygni fleet from a control panel on his command chair.

"Forces of the Cygnus Empire, Mandalore is with you. Those who stand before us shall light the night sky in flame," said the hologram of a long haired, scarred man. Across his forehead, and arcing down his nose, was a tattoo of the Vizsla clan symbol. A symbol that would one day be one of something more.

Perhaps the Cygnus forces, and their Mandalorian allies, for that matter, did not realize what they faced. Perhaps it was simply that they didn't care. The end result, though, was that the vessels left at Ord Wylan, consisting of ten TL-1200 transports and a quartet of XX-7 Mules, were crewed by zealots. There they sat, arranged in something of a poor formation, close to the planet, sans the Mules, which were planetside, but with the arrival of the ships, would be converted to flight mode and moved closer to Port Wylan; a moderately easy task, with the XX-7's ability to be repositioned at will; relatively a task of fifteen or twenty minutes.

After a short wait, the well-groomed face of one of the church members would appear in response to the hailing, originating from one of the TL-1200s. "False leader and overweight slug, I am Eli Tohn, Captain in the Church of the Good Deity, and leader of the defenders of this world. Ord Wylan is free from your foul influence, and you are trespassing on our sacred ground. Leave now, lest the bolt of the Goddess Herself strike you all, and take with you your poor Mandalorian boot-lickers."

"Mine warning everyone." came the message from the Cygnus Star Empire to the rest of the fleet. "All vessels feel free to open fire along the cylinder shape we're broadcasting you at the moment" they sent through a corridor proposal to the rest of the fleet. The scanners across the fleet began active planetwide scans to pick up any and all weapons which the Pius dea might have mounted and to see where.

The sky above Ord Wylan erupted into flame as the Huttese and Cygnus ships approached the world slowly using their lasers to waste any mines which might potentially be in their path. They did, however, remain out of range of the Turbolasers, assuming from the fact theyd had the report from the Cloakshape which attacked them that more were about.

"Launch a half dozen Interceptors and do a close-up sweep, orbiting the world" said Jamie as a group of his Rothana HSLI orbited the world over a 20 minute patrol. Especially they were expecting anti orbtal tanks ot Turbolaser batteries and made a thorough scan for these.

( Is Mandalore posting here? )

Added (19 April 14, 6:20 PM)

(( Mandalore has had ample time to post, so I'm going to go ahead. ))

The Cygnus fleet would have to work their way through the minefield, which wasn't exactly quick work, unless their gunners were dead on and came in force. Their scans would be easily able to pick up the moved XX-7 mules, and by the time they were in position to fire upon the world, if such was their choice, they'd not be able to strike the turrets without hitting areas of population.

Sitting on the far side of the minefield, the flotilla of TL-1200s began warming hyperdrives, their coordinates set and rechecking, though some had different destinations than others, as the case was. The move was still largely on the forces of the Cygnus empire, and their Huttese and Mandalorian companions.

The minefield clearing wasnt quick work but the sheer volume of fire being so high was sufficient enough to clear through for them a tunnel several kilometers wide, sufficient for them to get ships in close to the planet, slowly they expanded it with more fire constantly as the minutes went on. After all their fleet had plenty of time. These freighters managing to escape would be small fry, really of little interest since they couldn't carry a fraction of the planetary garrison left.

The Hutt Ships launched the first move. Impetuously launching a direct assault down the cleared tube, now around eight kilometers wide. They Cygnite forces launched their fighters after the Huttese contingent, six squadrons of mixed fightercraft, HH-87 Starhoppers, Cloakshapes, Toscans etc.. The rest of the fleet moved after the Hutts, remaining out of Turbolaser range from the planet but concentrating on being able to block the designated safe tube with their fire if needed. The etti-class behind the fleet kept up its fire on the area around slashing out any mines which did wander into the safe corridor. As they moved up to engage the Alderaan-class war frigate took the lead with the Surronian style craft launching its flarestar-class escort craft.

The Hutt ship moving into turbolaser range had launched it's own squadron of Cloakshapes which plummeted down into the atmosphere to head down and rain torpedoes down upon the XX-7s, taking no risks with the XX-7s or local defenses, using the Torpedoes at the limits of their range and firing a volley as soon as they could line one up then skirmishing away. The ship kept its speed up and made the effort to use it's atmospheric flight ability to it's advantage. Being down below the horizon for Port Wylan it was now pretty much unassailable but had the ability to approach and attack them at will now, circling the area at 800 k/ph, ready to rearm it's Cloakshapes if they ran out of torpedoes.

The main body of the fleet moved slowly, while the fighters moved ahead of them but without the impetuous quality of the Huttese forces, staying within protection positions for the Cygnus capital ships who edged toward turbolaser battery range, targeting enemy craft with their main turbolasers as the four Cygnus "Emperor Jamulon"-class vessels slowly turning and presenting their broadsides as they reached turbolaser range. The main batteries of the Alderaan-class War Frigate lay in a firing solution splitting its fire between the numerous enemy converted freighters, a quad turbolaser on each as the Cygnus Corona-class hoverred behind it (largely using it as cover) and preparing to fire it's Heavy Ion cannons on any ships passing up and down through their formation and attempting to flee.

They left gaps in their line for the Mandalorians to pass through.

((Sorry! Did not see the new posts, somehow.))

The Mandalorians had held back, waiting for their orders. Having been given no instructions yet, they simply waited to be commanded. Finally, the order came, and the Mandalorian Carrier proceeded to fire its engines and move in behind the fleet. It never moved into the fleet, however, and took to holding position behind the formation which was breaking through the minefield. At that time, the Carrier's twenty-four Davaab-type Starfighters launched and assumed a protective formation around the ship. Following this, the hangars were quickly voided of the entire transport complement, as thirty Meteor-class Q-Carriers and ten AIAT/i Gunships poured out of the Carrier at full speed, rushing through the gap in the minefield, and headed down towards the planet, aiming for the capital city.

--- Space - Near Ord Wylan ---

Giving the transports time was an issue; time that it took for the Huttese and Cygnus forces to clear the minefield. When they were halfway through, the TL-1200 transports had already split into two groups, heading for either edge of the minefield; far enough to be out of the immediate path of the barrage of vessels traveling down their circular corridor they'd cut and, incidentally, out of the planet's gravitational well. Of course, they were out of range for their own cannons to hit any of the invading vessels, and attempting to route a concussion missile shot through the field was just plain silly. For all reasons, the transports were fleeing. However, they'd had plenty of time, now. Their hyperdrives were warm and ready to go, and while the course was hard to plot, more or less, it would not be terribly difficult to achieve the desired ends.

The Cygnus fleet had jammed hypercomms, true, but a short-range signal was much, much harder to block. At a signal sent from one of the TL-1200s, roughly around the time all the fighters from the Cygnus fleet had exited the tube, all pell-mell, all the remaining space mines detonated, sure to cause an immense flash for sure, a concussion perhaps (though hardly anything for the attackers to worry about in that regard) but, more importantly, a massive, if brief, span of debris that would play hell with sensors.

In that moment after detonation, when the shock of such was likely to be making an impression, all ten TL-1200s executed, due to having the time to continually update their course, an in-system short-range jump. If all went well, their move would certainly play havoc with the enemy fleet and cost the Cygnus forces a high number of lives. However, no plan ever truly goes according to how it should be.

One of the TL-1200s had badly estimated its jump pattern and came out not two hundred meters off the Etti-class light transport's port side. Though outgunned, the TL-1200 opened fire with both quad laser cannon and both ion cannon; the flank of the lightly-armed one-hundred and twenty-five meter transport too good to pass up. A moment later, the first concussion missile fired, followed by a second. All this from the TL-1200s gunnery crew while the pilot threw the ship into full forward, aiming to ram the Etti amidships. Around the reactor of this ship, as with each in the small flotilla, a number of thermal detonators and makeshift grenades sat, all more than enough to detonate the ship and its remaining warheads. Each was set to blow by a zealot with a dead-man switch, just to make sure.

Throughout the Cygnus fleet, the scene was repeated. With the jump denying at the last minute the ability for any of the Cygnus ships to target the freighters, the Cygnus forces would find themselves now at point blank range. The pilot of one unfortunate TL-1200 had overestimated his jump. With the jump buffers removed, his path of interception would lead through the Alderranian war frigate, while two other transports materialized not a hundred meters off of the warship's starboard side. Both TL-1200s immediately engaged full sublight engines forward, opening fire with all cannon and two concussion missiles apiece. One TL-1200 reappeared, by sheer luck, no more than ten meters below the Corona-class frigate's ventral bulge. The crew immediately detonated the transport, whose close proximity and explosive force of a fifty-two meter ship exploding, along with sixteen concussion missiles, was sure to cause some sort of havoc. Two more of the transports' jump paths brought them directly behind the Corona-class, while yet another emerged almost sixty meters above its ventral side. All three ships, having targeted the craft as being the 'command vessel,' immediately cut loose with all cannons and two missiles per ship. The two TL-1200s to the rear of the Corona, by a good eighty meters, turned to alter their heading in an attempt to ram the vessel directly, while on the ventral aspect of the Corona, the TL-1200 dropped its nose at full power, with little to stop it from diving straight into the frigate's upper surface.

The last pair of TL-1200s reemerged near the odd command tower of one of the Resolute-class cruisers. Being the closest target in sight at one-hundred meters, they engaged engines and dove for the bridge itself, having re-emerged at an angle above and just behind the ship. Weapons fire from four sets of quad laser cannons and four ion cannons, in addition to three concussion missiles per ship, reached out to touch the bridge of the cruiser.

--- Ord Wylan - Port Wylan ---

The quartet of XX-7 Mules were picked off without incident, being too slow to track fighters. However, civilian casualties mounted as one of the exploding proton torpedoes detonated inside a school where a Mule was nearby, killing nearly a hundred children. There would be no anti-orbital resistance from the city, over which now hung a pall of smoke, but there were still enough defenders inside, for none had been taken on the transports, to make the Cygnus fleet have a costly fight, unless they simply chose to burn the city out from orbit.

(( One thing at a time here, I'll say. First, while I know you aren't fond of the Chiss, Thrawn was executing tactical microjumps long before the Jedi were, as noted in Outbound Flight. Plus, he hadn't heard of the Jedi until that book, so there is no way he could have learned it from them. ))

Thus having agreed that the "accidental" ramming of the Alderaan-class having established to be prevented thanks to the safeties in the hyperdrive of the TL-1200 the battle would go as follows, assuming the one originally ramming the Alderaan-class would now end up with the other two proximate to it.

The problems with Sensors were exaggerated somewhat, no doubt causing a momentary flash of energy but which would undoubtedly be compensated for momentarily. They were slightly erked for around a fraction of a second, certainly the energy ones, however, optical and other bands weren't effected and so the problem was minimal. Plus at the ranges they'd closed to, targeting computers were barely needed for many of the weapons present and gunners had a field day.

The Etti-class faced with the TL-1200 moved (since it already was moving forward with the rest of the fleet) at a faster rate, raining it's quad laser cannon fire down on the TL-1200 before it was ready for combat after it exited hyperspace (ships exiting notoriously having to take a few seconds to raise shields) but taking no chances it gunners simply moved it away on a heading that drew it toward the main bulk of the fleet and specifically the protective fire of the Alderaanian vessel. It's quadlasers raked the ship if it hadn't been destroyed by the initial volley of fire. The TL-1200 could only have had to execute a turn to pursue the fleeing Etti-class and so the Etti used it's tractor beams to impede the maneuvering of the smaller ship to a considerable extent as it raked it with its rear batteries of Quadlasers. Signalling distress to the Alderaanian War Frigate a pair of quad turbolasers opened opened up on the pursuing TL-1200. Combined with the multiplicity of quadlaser fire, not being able to outmaneuver or outrun the Etti, it would end up rather stickily stuck facing superior firepower. As it didn't have the speed to catch the already moving Etti, did it still suicidally detonate?

The trio (since the ramming didn't happen) of craft assigned to hit the Alderaanian War Frigate would be hit as they exited hyperspace by multiple volleys of quad turbolaser fire, at such point blank range, the large ships stood little chance of evasion as they were struck before their deflectors could power fully, as well as each being hit by a medium Ion Cannon. This kind of firepower on unshielded freighters could only have one effect; destruction.

The Corona-class felt itself shaken but its shields held as the detonation was of a sufficient distance to allow a measure of "buffering" since energy passes poorly through the void, diminishing the explosion compared to what a direct impact would've caused.

The craft emerging from hyperspace around the Corona-class found themselves with the nasty surprise of it's Flarestar-class escort craft being in a defensive posture quickly moved to engage the attackers on the command ship. Skimming neatly around the hull with much greater speed and agility they engaged the three aggressors with Torpedo and Laser Cannon fire immediately as they appeared. The point defense medium laser cannons proved key even at this range in engaging a significant portion of the incoming torpedo fire from the transports.

The Corona-class (as mentioned with the rest of the fleet, advancing) would find itself with three enemy freighters behind it and would simply accelerate away), sporadically hampering their progress with it's tractor beams as it fired it's main armament rearward at the TL-1200s, simply using it's greater speed and momentum (logically the TL-1200s have to turn around and then begin any ramming attempt) to bring it under the aegis of the closest pair of Resolute-class ships, which as they'd been in battle line conveniently also faced where the TL-1200s were now. The ships would activate their tractor beams and lock on to the TL-1200s as broadside gunners calculated precise fire coordinates as between the fleeing Corona, and two Resolutes (5 Tractor beams) they managed to seize the TL-1200s intent upon the Corona in place and opened fire with the firepower of ten turbolasers for each ship.

The last pair of TL-1200s reemerged near the odd command tower of one of the Resolute-class cruisers. As which in the line had not been stated, this would be one unengaged in the battle around the Corona and would be the most proximate to the Alderaan-class. A pair of it's quad-turbolasers targeted each of these craft too, the blasts zooming across the void now the interception ramming courses had become expected and were timed to strike the craft before they could intercept. The eight point defense lasers on the Resolute engaged by these two TL-1200s opened up too, rather earlier as the vessels emerged from hyperspace, raking them with lethal fire before their shields could even power, targeting the . The quadlasers impact upon a capital-ships shielding was relatively insignificant, however, the torpedoes did have the potential to be a problem but with the best part of half a dozen point defense lasers having raked their bows, the torpedoes would be lucky to even fire, and if they were so lucky would find themselves thoroughly effectively intercepted due to their being fired from predictable angles (due to the vessels not having time to speed up, take evasive action and line up runs - seemingly anyway just appearing, charging and firing). As this occurred. Tractor beams locked on to the two craft near the Resolute as it swung about to allow it's broadside to deliver the equivalent of five turbolaser cannons at each, plus the quad turbolaser fire from the Alderaanian ship; the crossfire would be bloody and likely stationary due to the much larger mass of the capital ships and thus their ability to hold the smaller converted freighters in place for the lethal killing work to begin.

Turning about, the nearby Cygnus fighters moved in and engaged aggressively with the TL-1200s wherever they found them, concentrating fire especially on those attempting pursuit or ramming actions. Interceptors made the point of interception, heavier craft would fire torpedoes up the tailpipes of TL-1200s then barrel roll away to avoid a return salvo. The Huttese Civilian cruisers joined in this gleeful attack upon the TL-1200s, zooming through the formed up Cygnus fleet and targeting the ships threatening the Corona-class (in addition to the massive volume of fire already directed against them) their own gunnery.

Ultimately... the TL-1200s, while heroic in their actions were facing too many tractor beams, too much fire hitting them as they exited hyperspace and powered shields and too much capital grade fire/tractor beam energy to allow their jihad jeep tactic to work out.

Planetside, the Hutts would wipe out the turrets one by one and withdraw to orbit. Moving toward the ongoing engagement. Now was the Mandalorians turn to make the rebel world burn.

Oooookay. Skippage For both of you this time. Since it's been 8 days.))

Jamulon's forces remarkably efficiently used their weapons as above described and locked the TL-1200s into an interlaced and multi-layered ambush as the fleet cooperated with it's fighters and tractor beam technology was used judiciously. For little damage to their fleet, the whole of the TL-1200 force would find itself disabled or destroyed.

Now there was just left the cultists planetside, with their turrets destroyed already, the Mandalorians would no doubt have a field day unless they felt exceptionally brave and heroic.
