A high number of vessels dropped out of hyperspace above the world of Drongar; small and large craft alike; the greater number bearing the sign of the Lorrdian Space Forces, with transports and construction ships showing signs of all three Houses upon their sides. Over two dozen craft were represented here; the culmination of an effort started by a pair of Lorrdian scouts several months prior. Determining that Drongar was not actually claimed by any other world, had no government of its own and, aside from the occasional brave bota gatherer, had no inhabitants; certainly none who were willing to live there, for Drongar was a dangerous world, from its array of native small, unintelligent life, which could kill a man quickly, to its airborne spores, deadly at high altitudes, but which tapered off several dozen meters above the ground, allowing properly prepared ships to enter the atmosphere without the spores' nature to destroy their engines and seep through filters to kill the crew of any landing vessel, Lorrd quickly lay marking beacons, effectively 'claiming' the world. A careful and time-consuming scan revealed that while there was plenty of life on the world, nothing even close to matching any known biological life-sign, in terms of sentient species, was present.

Fortunately, from samples taken back by Lorrdian botanists, scouts and researchers, this issue had been taken care of, through minor cellular alteration of a coating that, when applied to a ship's hull, prevented the spores from having such an effect, at least until the spores adapted. Then the coating had to be slightly tweaked again. Yet, all in all, it was worthwhile, for Drongar was the one place in the galaxy where bota could be found. The ships in orbit carried all that was necessary for the process of harvesting the plant with droids; setting up prefabricated facilities with antisepsis fields and minor carbonite-freezing facilities.

In a matter of a day or two, initial sites would be erected, finding the largest bota fields and beginning a harvest. As well, construction ships would begin planning an orbital facility to store bota while it was shipped out-system, as well as defense systems, for out here on the edge, any number of dangers could exist.

Within the time it took to travel from Nikto to Drongar, a ship had been dispatched. This was a Hutt War Yacht loaned by the Desilijic Clan to the Nikto in their time of need. It was stripped out and spartan conditions were now the order of the day. The Nikto aboard were an assorted group of locals raised at short notice, mostly ex-mercenaries and all lethal in their specialties.

Down the side of the ship's hull would be painted in the Nikto Language "The Nikto Justicar"

The ship approached from hyperspace and hailed the Lorrdians, Heavy Turbolaser Cannons charged and the four onboard HH-87 Starhoppers were launched, forming a delta with the bigger ship. "What exactly are you doing in our system?" would come an angry voice over the communicator, they'd also be broadcasting a public holocomm onto the holonet for the media to watch as they challenged the Lorrdian aggression.

If the Lorrdian work was not well guarded, they might well just attack, because it would undoubtedly take more than two days to set all of this up. After 48 hours.. how well and completely deployed were things here? They'd do a scan to find out.

"On final approach to Drongar, Captain. Realspace in three minutes."

Treslar blinked the sleep from his large, fish-like eyes as the announcement brought him back to consciousness. He sat up straight in the Captain's chair of the Mon Calamari cruiser Breaker, a bright, blue glow filling the bridge as the ship "swam" through hyperspace like a whaladon riding a current. The bridge itself was immaculately clean, its atmosphere humid so as to accommodate its crew of Calamarians and a handful of Quarren, who were presently being alerted to assume their stations as the Breaker neared the planet Drongar.

A party from the planet Lorrd had landed on Drongar and announced its "annexation" only hours before. Rumors of an armed response from the Hutt Cartel―which had a feeble claim of its own to Drongar―quickly swirled in the Senate, and the Mon Calamari Council dispatched Treslar to the planet for reasons that weren't clear to him. Intentionally so, no doubt. Treslar was to inform the Lorrdians that he was there simply to observe and to deter any acts of violence, since the Council hadn't yet announced its position on the competing Lorrdian and Hutt claims to Drongar. The ambiguity gave Treslar considerable freedom of action. The Breaker was prepared for just about anything, with a squadron of amphibious starfighters, a DeepWater-class freighter, and a nearly one hundred-strong troop of the Mon Calamari Guard.

Treslar had fallen asleep re-reading the publicly-available information on Drongar. It was a little-known or -understood planet inhospitable to most forms of sentient life. All the reasonable precautions had been taken to ensure the safety of his crew from hostile flora, fauna, and an upper atmosphere rich in spores that could eat through durasteel. Still, he wasn't pleased with this mission. The Lorrdian party claimed to have discovered some sort of "miracle cure" on Drongar―similar to bacta in its healing properties, so they claimed―and had interested the Mon Calamari Council enough to send Treslar here to observe. But personally, he didn't approve of the Lorrdian "annexation" of a world so close to Mon Calamari Space. He shook his head, looking away from the brilliance of hyperspace out the viewport to study a diagnostics report for the last few moments prior to the Breaker's arrival.

There were already numerous amounts of snubcraft present; not at all unexpected or unrealistic for such a small, dark corner of space where anything could happen. As well, in addition to moderate warships, there were unarmed craft present as well, and a high number of freighters, many of them of the armed variety, though many of these bore House colors; contributed as a part of the joint venture.

A skirmish screen had already been present and drawn up, in the event of trouble this far out, and the Minstrel-class yacht would find itself not only facing a CR70 painted in the red and green of Argazda and sporting Argazdan markings, but a pair of YV-929 armed freighters bearing both Lorrd and House Volmen's insignia, as well as a YZ-900 freighter bearing Lorrd and House Garth's insignia. No less than six Cutlass-9 patrol fighters were making lazy loops around the craft.

It was no surprise when the vessel entered the system; the workers and the joint military forces there had already been informed of the issues at hand. Scans of the system would reveal initial construction on a defensive station, as well as the processing and storage plant. It was clear certain landing ships were already planetside, evidenced by the number of shuttles descending to the world.

From the CR70, a pleasant voice responded calmly, "This is an unclaimed world, unknown... ah, one moment. Transponders mark you as the Nikto Justicar. I assume I am speaking to the captain of the ship. This is Acting Captain Gerald Stone, Lorrdian Space Forces, on the Argazdan corvette Redress. You're welcome to power down your weapons and talk." The joint forces had their own HoloNet news crew as well, straight from Coruscant to cover the first harvest of bota that would be shipped to hospitals in the Republic. Major articles had been written by the waiting journalists, revised multiple times and only waiting to hit the press. Now, they had something else to cover.

The Emissary withdrew his ships moving them close to the Calamari and powering down weapons "Brother Non-Humans, please help protect this virgin ecosystem our people discovered from Human destruction. And you know I speak not idly? They ruin every world they visit, wiping out the native ecosystem and putting in what makes them comfortable. Destroying biodiversity and not securing our zoological future."

"Shields up," Treslar said calmly as the Breaker emerged from hyperspace, the planet Drongar dominating the bridge viewport. It was immediately apparent that the Breaker wasn't alone; visible to port along the planetary horizon were the Lorrdian vessels arrayed against the Nikto Justicar. As the MC-40a moved closer at a ponderous, non-threatening speed―identifying itself to both parties in the process―the Lorrdian and Nikto starfighters became visible. It seemed that a standoff was in progress, Treslar noted. His barbels furrowed in disapproval of the sight of a single Nikto ship so outnumbered. The Nikto were common to this area of space. So were the Mon Calamari. What was Lorrd doing here? Alas, it wasn't Treslar's job to ask such a question.

Both the Lorrdians and the Nikto were expecting the Mon Calamari to make an appearance, and Treslar moved quickly to diffuse tensions. He ordered his second-in-command, Lieutenant Amira, to establish communications with the Nikto Justicar, guiding Emissary Uassa's ship into formation with the Breaker. Amira would inform the Emissary that they'd come to Drongar to observe and report on any Lorrdian attempts to assume possession of the planet or its bota fields, and act to prevent any such attempts if reasonably possible. Both Uassa and the Lorrdian forces would be asked to withdraw their fighters and invited aboard the Breaker for consultations.

Treslar didn't expect them to agree with one another, except perhaps on peripheral issues; namely, a joint-statement respecting the Mon Calamari presence at Drongar and calling on other worlds not to send any additional ships here. The last thing Treslar needed was for partisans of the Drongar dispute sending fleets here. Drongar's remote location and questionable strategic importance made this unlikely―bota was not well-known or -understood, and few planets other than Lorrd and Dac fully appreciated its medicinal value―but it would still be a positive gesture. Plus, having Uassa aboard would give Treslar a chance to compare notes with the Nikto emissary and fact-check the Lorrd's representative.

A Hardcell-class Transport of the Alsakan Journalistic Corps broke from hyperspace above Drongar, having taken some considerable time to travel out this far. It would immediately begin broadcasting, asking for interviews with all relevant parties. They'd set up a live-stream of events henceforth to the Core.

The Lorrdian and Mon Calamari captains were approached with a polite "Gentlebeings, we're a long way out in the periphery of the Galaxy here, could I get a brief comment on why you feel you are here, and if bota is really the new miracle drug, could we purchase a sample to testing aboard this vessel?"

Stone gave a brief sigh of relief when the vessels from Mon Calamari emerged. It was good to know they weren't alone out here. When the Alsakan vessel arrived, though, Stone doubted anyone was surprised. "I'll take this call in my quarters," Stone remarked to the comms officer.

Once he'd settled himself, he opened the channel to the Alsakan vessel.

"To begin with, Lorrd is present here, with help from some allies, to bring Drongar into the fold of the Republic, as well as to make bota available to the Republic and worlds across Republic space. However, Lorrd is not selling bota at this time, and even if it were, I am not authorized to make any sales of such. Drug testing is being conducted at a joint Lorrdian-Argazdan facility at this time, however."

The Nikto force withdrew their fighters, keeping close to the Calamarian force and the Emissary would go aboard the Mon Calamari ship unarmed and unguarded, firmly trusting the Calamari as fellow aliens with whom they'd been friendly thus far. Once his starhopper landed on the Mon Cal cruiser he would await politely to meet whoever might be representing the Calamari.

"Greetings. I apologize I am not more grandly dressed." said the Emissary almost nervously, finding his plain robes dullness in the extreme, being able to recognize the beauty of Mon Calamari tailoring. "It is regrettable the Jedi weren't deputized directly to see a fair outcome."

"You talk of "bringing Drongar into the fold of the Republic" but does such an ecosystem really have a role within the Republic except as a nature reserve? How do you respond to allegations that your planned bota extraction will have massive environmental cost? What of the declaration on Jerne that Bota was "Just another spice" since while it has healing properties for humans it seems to serve as a drug to many species, do you think this makes it suitable for general proliferation across the Galaxy as you've spoken of?" asked the Alsakan Special Reporter aboard transmitting this live holointerview into the Core. "Would you be amenable to referring the Drongar issue to the Republic's Courts to decide on claims?"

The Alsakan ship naturally remained non-hostile and continued to broadcast. Clearly the media were the priority here, not the Calamari!
