| This character is going to be a part of the Commerce Guild, heading his own company and having a spot on the board of directors within the Commerce Guild. This request deals with his own company that he sold as part of the joining process to enter into the Commerce Guild. It is a two-part company.
The first part is is a re-imagining of the Coruscant Merchant's Guild, allowing Rex the capacity as a trade baron to be among the top of the upper class. The company, Bright Nebula Conglomerate, would have been formed twenty-five years prior to the current date, originating as a moderate-sized but successful shipping company on Coruscant that had been cultured over several generations of the Rex bloodline. Prudence and wise spending allowed the Rex family to amass a good amount of wealth, which Gerrard, upon inheriting the company at 20, would use to expand through means both legal and nefarious to buy, blackmail or otherwise coerce other smaller trading companies to join with him. The end result, over the span of time, would place the Bright Nebula Conglomerate as one of the top three trading companies on Coruscant, which leads us to the second part of the request.
Bright Nebula, being what it is, has acquired a veritable army as a security force. Naturally, the full weight of said forces could never be brought to bear within the roleplay as large numbers of assets would be off protecting company interests throughout the galaxy, making sure that the roleplay remains balanced and fair.

| I vote to DENY. I would refer to my comments on Alyn Stark's original request:

I do believe that starting small, with many, many goals and hence many paths to reach those goals, will result in a more fun RP for everyone and perhaps even especially for you.

Even if it's simply as background for the character, I'm against a 25-year-old company acquiring the status of "one of the top three trading companies on Coruscant" in an era when shipping is heavily monopolized by thousands-year-old, literally ancient conglomerates. I don't think that kind of free enterprise potential actually exists in the Republic in this time period. But moreover, the RP really isn't about galactic-scale power players and I'd recommend narrowing your character's investments and interests to one of the regions in the RP where you can compete with other RPers rather than having the success of your business already established by request.
Or it'd be much more acceptable if he simply worked for the Commerce Guild. Or even better, the Techno Union or Trade Federation since there are other people involved in those already. And it would make a security force more plausible.

| The end result, overall, was that Rex has a filthy amount of cash to draw upon and that he travels among high circles. The company background was pretty much there so he'd be already starting in the Commerce Guild. I mean, tweak the overall request as necessary; I don't see the actual company playing into the RP at all, honestly. It's just backstory to draw upon. Added (01 June 13, 11:44 AM)

Well, since nobody has really broken it down, let's go with this:
Bright Nebula (a company that will only superficially, if at all, be appearing within the RP) has existed through nearly three-hundred years (or roughly 2-3 generations) of Rex bloodline. In this time, it's become a very successful and wealthy company; more than enough to amass the Rex family a large enough fortune where they could all retire and live comfortably for several generations afterwards.
After inheriting the company at the age of 20, Rex continued onwards, utilizing less-than-honorable means such as blackmail, piracy, etc. under cover to acquire further small trade and shipping companies on Coruscant until he'd more than quadrupled Bright Nebula's size. Around this time, he came to the Commerce Guild with an offer: the sale of a successful company with a large number of hostile takeovers, as well as a sizable security force. In exchange, he'd be granted a (minor) seat on the board of the Commerce Guild and act as a company acquisition expert for them.

| I vote to DENY. I should have been clear that not only am I "against a 25-year-old company acquiring the status of 'one of the top three trading companies on Coruscant,'" I'm against any character-made company in the RP achieving or having achieved by-request that level of success. The Techno Union, and to a lesser extent the Trade Federation, Commerce Guild, etc. are the large corporate players of the RP. However, you did say:

If indeed this is the end result you want, and if indeed the company won't even play into the RP, you can achieve the same result simply by having Rex be from a wealthy family. To use an example from my own experience, at one point I wanted a character with money, engineering expertise, and business experience, and the result was Hieronymous Kuat, who was from a wealthy family and also a former executive at a major company, without actually bringing that major company into the RP. It was from this starting point that Kuat involved himself in various businesses of his own on a scale that was more appropriate for the RP. Something along similar lines might be called for here.

| The company is simply a reason for Rex to be a part of the Commerce Guild, albeit in a minor board member form, as well as have his own small private security force.
