Background:

Dalath Jeram, born on Coruscant to wealthy parents, was an apt candidate for the Jedi Order even at the age of two. Taken in so very young, Dalath knew very little of his parents and was raised by the Jedi Order. Even from a young age, Dalath shunned all attempts to blend well with the other younglings, preferring the solitude of the massive archives. Training and books were what Dalath knew best, and he passed the trials at the age of twelve; a nearly unheard-of event. Nonetheless, this goal did not come without a heavy price: Dalath would forever bear the scars of the Trial of the Flesh across his upper body and the cost of almost failing the Trial of the Spirit nearly cost him his place within the Jedi Order. What Dalath saw during the testing that day was not something he would ever speak of, however, preferring to keep what he saw to himself. Nonetheless, nobody could deny Dalath's effectiveness, but his brooding devotion to the Forms and his relentless study of the Archives was frowned upon.

To put an end to the possible loss of such a promising student, Dalath was encouraged to travel. Departing the Temple for a time, Dalath journeyed the galaxy, finding a love for spaceflight and the speed of small, fast ships. Training in varied simulators both in the Temple and on varied worlds only increased his skill; the path of the Jedi Aces was recommended to Dalath on more than one occasion, but he repeatedly turned the honor and brotherhood down. During one of his rare jaunts out, Dalath returned with a solitary young boy from Tatooine; Devin Rel'kom, whom Dalath took on and trained as his Padawan.

In between training the lad to pass the Trials and achieve Knighthood, Dalath became practically obsessed with what he called 'the failings of the Forms,' which led him to delve deeper; too deep, some would later say. At one point, Dalath was considered a candidate for the position of battlemaster, but was passed up in favor of Cin Drallig's greater stability. With Devin Rel'kom's successful transition to Knighthood, Dalath was at last, for his knowledge and ability, raised to the rank of Master. It was a title he held briefly before it was stripped from him in a short time, largely in part due to a number of usages of sai cha against criminals that could have otherwise been subdued without death, and his delving into certain books regarding the darkside.

In a rage from the loss of his title, Dalath departed the Jedi Temple in a speeder and, driving recklessly, caused a resulting collision that resulted in the fiery destruction of three speeders. Dalath was assumed lost amongst the wreckage with six others in the depths of Coruscant. In reality though, Dalath survived; horribly injured. Recovered by his one-time Padawan, Dalath was nursed back to health in secret in the depths of Coruscant. When he was well enough, Dalath traveled off-world, utilizing monies set aside in a fund left to him by his parents upon their death. Draining the accounts and spreading them out in a number of different investments, Dalath ensured he would never want for money. A good doctor on a distant planet repaired Dalath's injuries, grafting him a new health. The doctor disappeared shortly afterwards, and Dalath Jeram became Jericho Novak.

Novak sought out Count Dooku not long after upon the man's departure from the Jedi Order and subsequent joining with Darth Sidious. Acting as an agent of Dooku to lay the groundwork for the upcoming Clone Wars, Novak proceeded to undertake a number of covert and standard missions to weaken the Republic that had denied him, all the while learning further darkside abilities under the Count. Nonetheless, Novak's primary research was into what he called 'Form VIII,' a new way of combat that would put aside all the classical forms.
