Jory. Karth. Jaron. Fajra. Baird. Frank. Echuu. Gone, all. And gone, to a one, without saying goodbye. With this post, I am adding my name to the list, but not without some sense of finality—not without saying goodbye.

I wrote in June of last year that we stood among the dying days of this hobby of ours. As I wrote at the time:

Quote
The definition of a 'role-playing game' has changed drastically over the last decade. I suspect it is inconceivable to today's generation that descriptive writing was considered fun, much less a 'game.' With the rise of personal technology, people no longer have the attention spans for this sort of RP, and that is a shame.

Now, over a year later, those days have come and gone. The hobby is dead. There is no longer a need for excuses, nor any use for protestations of faith. But nor, I think, is there any reason for sadness. Again, to quote myself:

Quote
I have given many words to RP [...] as well as many, many hours, and a few dollars too. In return, I have taken the pleasure of your company; I feel I have benefited from having known all of you and gained insights into the human experience that I wouldn't otherwise have. Indeed, I have more knowing relationships with some of you than with many other people in my life, and I'm sure the same is true of you, as well.

Since that time, without this hobby to unite us, we have already begun to grow apart from one another. RP, it is true, has been a valuable and cherished part of my life. But if I am honest today (and let us be honest with each other, and with ourselves), it is no longer as valuable to me. I no longer cherish it as I once did. This has been true for some time.

Still, some foolish sense of duty has compelled me time and again, and with increasing reluctance, into a leadership role in the RP. I occupy such a role even now, if only nominally. As such, the burden of reality falls upon me. And so I declare: for too long have we spent our energy on false hope. Our love of what was has blinded us to what is; that one, lonely fact—that all of us, to one degree or another, have outgrown RP. For whatever else this might be, it is progress. And progress is good.

I have come to think of RP as I think of those names at the beginning of this post. I have fond memories of each, as I do of each of you. But one day—perhaps soon, or perhaps already—I suspect we'll think of one another the way we think of those names. I certainly hope that I'll be remembered more for the playgrounds of imagination that I built for you, and not for my failure to maintain them. Ultimately, I hope it is said of me that what I had to give, I gave.

For those of you left to read this, thank you for sharing so many years of this life with me. In particular—thank you Adam, for being the last man standing and trying to do the impossible, and to you, Jess, for being there from the beginning of this hobby to its end.

In closing, I refer you to the entirety of my remarks from last June: http://starwarslegends.ucoz.com/forum/19-137-1

Goodbye.

It is true, we have lost a lot of people over the years.

Maybe it's because I'm sentimental, or maybe it's because myself, you, Jace, Robert, Jaron, Jess, Jamie, Robert, Erik and even Carl, for a time, kept this place going, that I'm not willing to sit back and just let it all go. Perhaps it's because this place saw me through so many dark times that I'm just not ready for it to be the end.

Jace, you did the best you could, for so long. As for the rest of us, even if it's not posting as often as it once was, I'd like to say that Legends, like AGW before it, will still be open for as long as possible; as long as people still care to post, even if it's in a rarity.

I've had a great time with all of you... and I still do hope to have more.

Jace, in whatever you do, old friend, I'm sure we'll all always think of you.

Out of all your posts about stepping aside... I believe this one to be more true then anything...

I fondly remember my adventures of RP, starting from DBZ and ending in Star Wars, back from MSN to here. Even sitting here, I'm at a loss for words at what to say. We've had good times, bad times, back to good times... evolving into great times, and then slowly withering back to into the dark ages. AGD was a blast and I wish we could still relive the old days where the RP was rich and tasteful... but sadly, like everything else in life... nothing is forever. Everyone grows up and eventually starts focusing on them. Those of us left... well perhaps this is the time where we shut this door and open up another one.

I'm not saying good bye, simply see you later, Jace. From 2000 to 2014, you've done well for yourself as well as keeping us all interested. Hell... maybe it's time to put Star Wars to bed and do a new genre. Maybe you are really giving up RP. Whatever the case is... it's been fun.

Well,

I would be lying if I said I didn't see this type of roleplay dying for some time now. Right now, I am seeing the forum-based roleplay groups disappear more and more...especially star wars. However, it's been ten years of roleplaying for me. I started around a little before the waning days of AGD. Some of you were nice enough to take me in and teach me how to rp, others just wanted to kick my ass. Either way, it's been fun-filled ten years. There were great ideas any one of us could have come up with over the years, but as time goes on...especially after AGW were reformed into Legends, I find it harder and harder to motivate myself to rp.

Don't get me wrong, I love rping as much as any one of you guys do. As Havoc said, all good things must come to an end.

Now, I will not abandon Legends. As Jace had mentioned loyalty to the group over the years, I do think a lot of us have enough of a loyalty to stick around a sinking ship and I commend all of us for doing so. I will owe my loyalty to stay until the day the Legends die. Beyond that...I can not say I will have a future in roleplaying.

With me moving to Washington DC in a couple days, and not knowing whether I will have time to rp, I doubt I'll attempt to rp beyond any Star Wars genre. Thus, I am announcing my retirement. I will retire the day the Legends officially dies.

Jace, you have been a good friend and confidant, as well as someone entertaining to rp with, to me. I won't forget you. You always have my skype if you ever feel like chatting or something.

The time is ticking, guys. If we are heading toward the end, then we should go out with a bang.

I ran multiple characters. Most well known was Zarc with the Cronese Mandate.
