I would remind Naboo though, that by signing any such deal it could not expect to renegotiate its rates with the Trade Federation which are on a fixed scale in our Export Exclusivity Contract signed running with validity for another thirty years. Should any Government abrogate this agreement we would be forced to take actions to remedy the situation.
I must dispute this assertion from Senator Cynum. Now yes, there's this:
Quote
Around 868 BBY, Naboo joined the Galactic Republic.
However, there is also this:
Quote
In 65 BBY, Bon Tapalo was a front-runner in the election of the next Monarch of Naboo. Tapalo supported his homeworld's complete integration into the Galactic Republic.
And this:
Quote
His reign saw his homeworld's full transition into the Galactic Republic as a member world.
Thus it stands to reason that Naboo has some sort of affiliate member-type status with the Republic at the present time (92 BBY). I would argue that, at this point in time, Naboo is not as entangled in Trade Federation compacts as Republic worlds typically are, and that either A.) no such trade agreement should exist, or at the very least B.) I (or the relevant Naboo monarch character) should be consulted before such an agreement is referred to as fact.
In support of this contention I point to the following quote pertaining to c. 60s BBY, thirty years from now in the RP:
Quote
two different political camps opposed each other: one camp wanted to open Naboo to the greater galaxy and stimulate the economy by opening the planet's plasma resources to galactic corporations such as the Trade Federation and Damask Holdings; the other wanted to keep Naboo in an isolationist policy which would prevent these companies from plundering their world
The implication is rather clear to me that an isolationist policy with regard specifically to the Trade Federation prevails on Naboo not only into the 60s BBY, but in fact as far as 38 BBY, a full 54 years from the current setting of the RP:
Quote
As the insular Naboo traditionally held an aversion to off world trade they agreed to have the powerful Trade Federation buy the plasma at fixed prices. However, the Federation took advantage of the Naboo's naivety and sold the plasma for greatly marked up prices, selling the Naboo short.
Perhaps this is the trade agreement you refer to? If so, however, it remains many years in the future. As of 92 BBY, I don't believe Naboo would have anything so ominously titled an "Export Exclusivity Contract" with the Trade Federation, though I don't preclude the possibility of Naboo port cities having individual trade agreements with the Trade Federation (and other shipping corporations—nothing exclusive, surely).
