I write to you from Gyndine, a world you will know for its generosity to the Hutts. I am Drayson de Vega, Chairman and CEO of Vega Intersolar, a shipping concern in the Circarpous Sector and a friend of Hutt interests in that Sector. Your Corpulence, I have a humble request of your uncle, the Illustrious Jabba, that I am hoping you can convey to him; the Trade Federation is not a friend of the Hutts, and the exclusivity clause of Vega Intersolar's ancient shipping contract for the Circarpous Sector has kept the Federation (mostly, but not completely) out of the Sector—which, as you know, provides Hutt interests with command of the Ootmian Pabol as far as the Expansion Region and access to Republic markets on the Nanth'ri Route. This exclusivity clause is in danger, however.
These are hard times for Vega Intersolar. For more than a century, we have moved certain Hutt products at deep discounts. We are happy to do so, but it is costly for us. In order to save on maintenance and insurance costs, the Board of Directors has voted to reduce the Vega shipping fleet by 10%—this will make it difficult for us to meet the requirements of the exclusivity clause, in which case the clause is invalidated and the Trade Federation would monopolize trade in the Circarpous Sector as it has everywhere else. The Hutts would lose the discounts and discretion that Vega Intersolar offers, and probably lose control of Gyndine.
What I ask of your uncle is this: a contingent of sturdy, armed ships with hardy crews to be deputized into the Vega shipping fleet as a sort of "Trade Defense Force" for the Circarpous Sector which I can put to use in various ways to make the Sector inhospitable to the Trade Federation. In gratitude for this, I am prepared to offer shares in Vega Intersolar to your uncle and to yourself. And everyone's interests are amply served (except for the Federation's).
