Born on Kamino, Dimitri was a little known member of the minor noble house of Maximov on Druckenwell. Despite being distantly related to some wealth, Dimitri's parents, being the poor and rather outcast members of the lineage, decided to do the 'noble' thing and put their son up for adoption, hoping that he might find a better life than with a group of wandering refugees. Of course, there are always odd sorts who are on the lookout for new talent. New talent as well, takes many forms, especially in the form of a newborn who is easily molded into whatever the 'parents' want it to be.
Dalos Yal was on Kamino for a dark purpose. After all, the GenoHaradan kept the peace in a fashion in some ways, and even on Kamino, there were those who made trouble in a fashion. Perhaps then, it is odd fate that life and death should have been so intertwined. An assassination and an adoption all in one mission, and when Dalos Yal departed Kamino, he departed with Dimitri Maximov as well, leaving behind a corpse whose death might well have seemed of natural causes to most.
Even in the GenoHaradan, hidden as it was, were those who used the Force to their advantage. The best of the best, after all, had to draw from all walks of life, especially in the days prior to the Clone Wars and after. Rogue Jedi, dark Jedi, half-trained Sith practitioners and even Potentium believers, many came and left (albeit not alive) the ranks within the GenoHaradan. In such a fashion, Dimitri's affinity for the specialized talents (in this case, the Force) grew in an odd fashion. With training that was not all Jedi, not all darkside and not quite Gray, Dimitri became a blend of all, using his talents for the GenoHaradan and not looking at the good an evil of things. What he was asked to do was what he did, and he kept the balance.
