| Gentlebeings of the Senate, I welcomed this election as an opportunity to clear my name of the many things I'm unfairly accused of. I promised to fight for this job, to move beyond the scandals and rumor-mongering and return to work on the agenda that I was elected on; public-private sector cooperation on the delivery of essential services to the people, the elimination of both government and corporate bureaucracy, the strategic use of the treasury to stimulate the economy on Republic worlds, and the maintenance of the Great Peace. I'm proud of how much of this I've accomplished. But I haven't accomplished all of it, and unfortunately, nor shall I.
For the rumors and the innuendo have taken their toll, not only on my approval ratings, but on my dear and long-suffering wife, Margét, whose courage in her battle with Drakñahr Syndrome has been an inspiration for me to continue fighting here in the Senate. But the Office of the Supreme Chancellor is greater than any one man, and I won't permit my political opponents to call the Office into disrepute. My agenda is more important to me than the trappings of power, but I no longer feel capable of advancing that agenda as Chancellor. The supposed "investigation" into my finances—in reality, nothing more than a politically-motivated Dathomir witch hunt based only on rumors—my opponents have diminished me in the court of public opinion, though in no court of law. These personal attacks on me, my staff, and my family would only intensify in the heat of a re-election campaign, and any victory for me would be a Pyrrhic one.
For this reason, I now believe that I can more effectively continue the work that I've started, not as Chancellor, but as the Senator of Metellos. Therefore, I am formally announcing my withdrawal from this campaign. At this time, I do not endorse any successor. But I intend to cast my vote for the candidate most likely to advance the principles that I mentioned a moment ago into the thousandth year of the modern Republic.
Margét and I thank the Senate for its overwhelming support for me in the the recent Vote of No Confidence, endorsing my innocence of the crimes of which I am falsely accused. I also thank the Senate for electing me Chancellor in the first place. And I now look forward to working with you as a Senator in the months and years to come.

| The Techno Union applauds this wise decision. I believe that Chancellor Pryce's skill can still be deployed well to the benefit of the galaxy, he is a man of many talents and I wish him the best in future.
