Gentlebeings of the Senate,

My name is Artemis Vanden, I am the Duke of Kalevala, New Mandalore, and the New Mandalorian Territories, and the Mand'alor (or "leader") of the Mandalorian people. I come before you as an ambassador of the Mandalorians with a lower-case "aurek," but I am petitioning you to be the Ambassador of Mandalorian Space in this Senate.

For most of you, the word "Mandalorian" no doubt calls to mind the ancient Mandalorian wars of conquest. "Mandalore the Indomitable" and "Mandalore the Ultimate" stand among the great bogeymen of history. But I have come to Coruscant not as an emissary of war, but of peace. The "Old" Mandalorian ways are no more—extinguished in what you call the "Mandalorian Excision" of over 600 years ago. My world still bears the scars of the Excision, as do my people. Nonetheless, the "New" Mandalorian government I represent has always understood the necessity of it.

For we New Mandalorians are reformers, risen from the burnt ashes of Mandalore. For more than six centuries, we have stood for peace and progress. We are neutral (and we intend to remain so), but I hope as Ambassador of Mandalorian Space to put my people on the path to full membership in the Republic. That is why I come before you today and humbly submit this petition for representation in the Senate.

I will, of course, answer any questions that you have of me.

Artemis Vanden
Ambassador of Mandalorian Space
Duke of Kalevala, New Mandalore, and the New Mandalorian Territories
Duly-appointed Mand'alor ("leader") of the Mandalorian People

Interesting!!! Tell me, how do you say in your native tongue, "I'll rip your head off and feed it to my pet Basilisk!"

And do you feel that with your membership into the Senate, will bring the great and mighty citizens of this Galactic Republic to forgive your type for all the wars you people caused?!! For all the disruptive acts you people have caused during your conquests of the galaxy?!!! For all the lost loved ones that had to fight your type because you felt as if you were superior?!!!! Give me one good reason I shouldn't have the Supreme Chancellor arrest you as a war criminal!!!!!!

I broadly do feel the Mandalorian people have done some great and evil acts and brought war to the Galaxy Senator Turot. But let us not forget that the vast majority of their people have become "New Mandalorians" since the bitter times of war and been for six hundred years the most devout pacifists I can recall.

They're a movement we seeded and one we have seen grow and flower to bring peace to Mandalorian Space, Senator Turot. So I urge you to change your mind, we must pursue ruthlessly those unreformed Mandalorians who do not follow the way of peace, but respect and nurture those who have embraced modernity and peace.

Verence Terrawin

I see no reason not to welcome a reformed Mandalore to the Senate.

I am curious, however, Ambassador Vanden, what are your thoughts as to the Mandalorians who act as mercenaries and military trainers, those who hold allegiance only to the highest bidder?

I know there are some within the Senate who utilize such on their worlds, after all.

My native tongue is Basic, Senator Tu'rot. No self-respecting New Mandalorian speaks Mando'a in this day and age (my title of Mand'alor is mostly ceremonial). The kind of Mandalorian you're thinking of, Senator—I call them "Old Mandalorians"—are an enemy of us both. Indeed, they are enemies of progress itself. We New Mandalorians look to the future; the Old Mandalorians look to the past. They cling to ancient grudges, just as you seem to, Senator Tu'rot. That can lead us only to war. And I do not believe, as the Old Mandalorians do, that war is somehow glorious. I believe that Human potential is achieved not on the field of battle, but in the fields of art and science. War destroys the arts and sciences, and it destroys Human potential.

Senator Terrawin, your remarks are correct and I thank you for them. I look forward to making common cause with you in the Senate.

Senator Ryuun, as I was saying to Senator Tu'rot, my title of Mand'alor (or "leader") of the Mandalorian people is mostly ceremonial; I have no legal authority outside of Mandalorian Space, and if Mandalorians on Druckenwell or elsewhere choose to be mercenaries, they are certainly free to do so. I don't approve of the vocation, but my opinion on the matter is immaterial in this instance.

I believe Senator Ryuun's comment was directed at me, actually, Ambassador. Lorrd has taken on a large number of Mandalorian trainers over the years for its armed forces.

I don't know much about your 'New Mandalorians,' I confess, but the ones I have met give me faith that you should be a strong leader. Lorrd votes in favor of allowing Ambassador Vanden representation in the Senate.

I believe this is a step in the right direction for the people of Mandalore, who have finally rid themselves of barbarism. It is regrettable that the Republic had to resort to Mandalore's own tactics to bring about this day, but that this day has come, is a moment which warrants celebration. I, for one, welcome you to the Republic, Ambassador Vanden.

I refuse to give a vote of favorable action to this!!! This is an outrage!!! This man is a Mandalorian; war criminals that have re-populated within the shadows of secrecy!!! I refuse to accept any type of application from these people!!! We grant them permission to be represented in these chambers and then what?!! They suddenly go on the war path and then they do it under the Republic banner!!! I will NOT let the good name of the Galactic Republic fall to a bunch of monsters that claim they are 'peaceful'!!! A Mandalorian that is peaceful, HA!!! Never have I heard such nonsense before... EVER!!! We might as well say that Rancors are friendly animals and are good for the common household!!! Until this man provides solid proof, he will not have my vote... EVER!!!

And another thing!!! Was this man subject to security protocols when he entered these chambers?!!! How do I know he doesn't have a bomb strapped to him or a weapon hidden somewhere on his person?!!! Did he have any associates with him?!!! Were they properly searched as well?!!!

A blue robed gentleman, among the four individuals who sat below the Chancellor's Podium, rose as Senator Turot spoke. When he was finished, he broke into the debate. "Senator, as Sergeant at Arms, I can assure you that the Mandalorian ambassador was searched and went through thorough screening before being allowed into the Senate Building, as was his party." He proceeded to sit back down, in order to allow the debate to continue.

There appear to be no further questions for Mr. Vanden. Welcome to the Senate, Ambassador. Your people will find the Republic is ready to welcome them when they are good and ready to join the galactic community. (With the apparent exception of Senator Tu'rot. And Senator, your objection to Ambassador Vanden, and um, to the existence of the Mandalorian people in general, is noted for the record.)
