| Alderaan is concerned about the recent increase in slave raids and piracy around Hutt Space, for the fate of the many worlds around the Cygnus Star Empire and for the security of the Trade Lanes in general.
I would like to ask the Senate if it would oppose Alderaan, one of the founding members of the Republic and one of the most peace-loving worlds anywhere, to expand it's defense force (to add one Anaxsi War College System "Heavy Cruiser" size vessel to our fleet), to allow us to meet roving pirate fleets head on, or make powerful shows of force on the behalf of all Republic Worlds when the Hutts or others threaten us, for the mutual protection of all members of the Republic and to aid the various local patrol fleets in their duties.
We have no specific plans as yet but have put our proposals out to public tender, I would hear your opinions, Senators.

| I would be open to the idea..
Although if such a ship would be "aiding local patrols" that would mean the Trade Federation Defense Force which secures all this Galaxy's major hyperlanes. Would you be prepared to guarantee your ship would be operationally subordinate to the relevant TDF officer when on such patrols?

| Would the Chancellor please clarify what speed which we restrict the the older Dreadnaughts to? Core Worlds do sometimes traditionally use these, to protect their sectors but why the need for a new large vessel? If such a ship was to even approach a thousand meters and have the sole purpose of destruction then I would demand it's hyperdrive speed be extremely curtailed as we require these Dreadnaughts speeds to be.

| Little piracy is seen around Alderaan, precisely because we maintain a strong defense force to ward them off. What we propose is to create a ship to go and help those who can't help themselves.

| To answer the Senator from Alsakan, Ruusan era regulations require that vessels in excess of 600 meters must have hyperdrives rated Class 5 or higher. Exemptions are made, of course, for systems on the frontier which, as Senator Ordan correctly notes, face more dangers than Core Worlds do. Pirates, and so on. But as Senator Ryuun pointed out, these are not dangers that Alderaan currently faces, nor should it voluntarily do so. Indeed, the Ruusan Reformations disbanded the Republic Navy in favor of Planetary Security Forces on the assumption that Republic planets would defend themselves. And I doubt that Alderaan needs a heavy cruiser to defend itself.

Alderaan thinks it likely it will opt for a ship which is able to travel at speeds faster than Class 5 and still provide the clout needed to help protect those who call for help on the Outer Rim, a well as bolster your anti-piracy and anti-slavery patrols. Surely you ought to thank Alderaan for it's committed citizenship helping to compensate for your lack of efficacy in office.
The Judicial Forces are failing to enforce law and justice on the spacelanes, Piracy and Slaving are rampant. I for one will lead my world to fight this tide of darkness threatening our Republic.
