| ~ Set prior to the events of Leofric Jafan's adventure. ~
Mercurio sat alone in his grand chambers in the Royal Palace, surrounded by towering portraits of his ancestors. He appeared small in comparison, dressed in his bedclothes and hunched over his desk. The curtains were drawn and the room was poorly-ventilated. Mercurio was not a well man. His doctors told him that he was working himself to death, and that he should be in bed. So for a time, he worked from his bed. It was at this point that his exasperated doctors gave up telling the ever-obstinate King what to do, and he went back to his desk, which is where his nephew, Antar Ilyone, would find him once he was shown into the chamber.
"Antar! Please do come in, come in!" Mercurio would say, waving his nephew over to him. He tried to sound friendly, but his voice was tired. He'd summoned Antar here for this meeting, but hadn't explained why. "Please do sit down," he gestured to one of the finely-upholstered repliwood chairs opposite his desk, "How is your mother?"
Antar probably wouldn't be expecting the show of familial affection. It was true that Mercurio had grown closer to his nephew in the years since his spice-addicted son and heir to the throne, Davon, had adopted the life of a smuggler in the employ of a Hutt gangster, never to be seen again. Mercurio also encountered his nephew in the once-weekly meetings of the Royal Advisory Council, of which Antar was a member. But they'd never been too close. Since his wife passed, Mercurio had thrown himself into his work, leaving little time for his remaining family.
The sympathy of the people and respect for the long hours of work that he did on their behalf made Mercurio a reasonably popular King, enough so that the people of Naboo would probably honor his choice of successor, now that there was no longer an heir apparent. That was the real reason he'd summoned Antar here today, pushing aside his datapad and flimplast notes to direct his attention to his nephew.
His Majesty, Mercurio II King of Naboo

| Antar stepped in the room silently and tossed a glance around at the musty abode. He was used to it, as he had grown close to his Uncle in recent years. They had more in common than most thought; the King's son was a spice-addicted run away, and Antar's own daughter was a spice-addicted...but she hadn't run away. Also, Antar's wife had also passed, though it had been a great deal of years before. He would sit when asked, and offered a smile as he unbuttoned his suit jacket. "She is...as well as can be expected, Uncle. I have had to hire a nurse to tend her around the clock, but at least she is comfortable and well cared for." He cleared his throat.
"I am sorry that I did not come by sooner. With my daughters safe return, we have been very busy in getting her settled back in. I will bring her around one day soon, as I am sure she remembers you fondly." Antar shifted his weight in the chair and crossed his right leg over top of the right. "If you would like, that is. You'll be surprised to see the change in her." He commented thoughtfully. Mercurio certainly had noticed Antars absence at the weekly meetings, but his excuse was valid, and his daughter was important; especially after the massive search he had launched for her, and thousands of personal credits he had spent, if not millions.
"So, what did you ask to see me about today, Uncle? I was planning on attending the meeting this week and have a few issues to be brought to the table, as well as some praises. If...you would still like me as part of the council, that is."
Antar Ilyone
