The "Hive" Picket Fleet Line

The "Hive" Line is to be produced quietly (although legally) to allow a surge in security within the Outer Rim without the heavy cost of the Kuari Warships they often field or the arming of further Lucrehulk-class Freighters (which has the risk of provoking out in the rim). They can refuel inside any Lucrehulk-class Freighter, and hide within any smaller craft, and allow the Republic to withdraw ships from the Outer and Mid Rims while security of the Outer and Mid Rims actually demonstrably increases.

Number requested: Non-specific. Maximum to be assembled for a "Swarm" would be a half dozen of mixed craft for a pre-organized stakeout or attack. As standard the ships patrol individually on long patrols, often waiting patiently at hyperlane stopping points powered down waiting for months on end for pirate raid. Not used alongside conventional ships partially due to the wish to promote the mystery of the designs and also because they're the picket that would warn big TDF assets of dangerous areas to allow the big guns to come in. Use would be approved on a case by case basis on any more than a handful being used in a single encounter.

The "Hive" Line

The Wasp-class Armed Picket
Type: Picket/Interdiction Ship
Scale: Capital
Length: 210 meters

Crew: 4 (Bridge Crew - In suspended animation via an entropy field until combat is detected), only bridge section of ship is pressurized.

Droid Command Crew (Able to operate autonomous of control computer): 2 GD16-series pilot droid, 1 R1 Astromech Droid, 1 OOM Command Droid
Droid Maintenance Crew (operate by control computer instructions: 120
Droid Anti-Boarding Swarm: 40 Fastlach-class Security Droids concealed under deck plates, roof grilles or air vents to suprise borders lethally. Scattered across the ship's corridors steadily more and more densely as you approach the pressurized crew area.
Cost: Not for sale
Passengers: 12
Cargo Capacity: 100 Tons
Consumables: 18 months
Hyperdrive: Class 1.5
Backup: Class 10
Sublight: 50 MGLT
Nav Computer: yes
Hull: CR90 equivalent
Shields: 50% stronger than CR90 shields.

Weapons:
2 Quad Turbolaser Cannons
1 Dual Heavy Ion Cannon
6 Point Defense Laser Cannons
2 Tractor Beam Projectors

Special Feasures:

Extremely High power Communiations and Sensor Array: Renders jamming extremely problematic for anything less than a Dreadnaught size ship, allows detection of ships arrival and class several seconds before they arrive in an area if active. Also allows extremely accurate gunnery. However, once shields are down this is an exceptionally easily destroyed or ionized component.

SIlent Sentry: When sensors on passive, the crew are in stasis and the ship is simply on Sentry with most systems powered down, it is sufficiently low-powered to require a full post of military sensor activity to detect them at long and intermediate ranges.

Compliment:
36 Scarab-class Droid Starfighters

The Hornet-class Armed Picket
Type: Gunship/Interdiction Craft
Scale: Capital
Length: 180 meters
Crew: 4 (Bridge Crew - In suspended animation via an entropy field until combat is detected), only bridge section of ship is pressurized.
Droid Command Crew (Able to operate autonomous of control computer): 2 GD16-series pilot droid, 1 R1 Astromech Droid, 1 OOM Command Droid
Droid Maintenance Crew (operate by control computer instructions: 150
Droid Anti-Boarding Swarm: 30 Fastlach-class Security Droids concealed under deck plates, roof grilles or air vents to suprise borders lethally. Scattered across the ship's corridors steadily more and more densely as you approach the pressurized crew area.
Cost: Not for sale
Passengers: 12
Cargo Capacity: 100 Tons
Consumables: 18 months
Hyperdrive: Class 1.5
Backup: Class 10
Sublight: 60 MGLT
Nav Computer: yes
Hull: CR90-class equivalent
Shields: DP20-class equivalent

Weapons
3 Quad Turbolaser Turrets
2 Dual Turbolaser Turrets
1 Heavy (Short range fast firing) Turbolaser Turret (1)
Point Defense Laser Cannon (5)

Special Features:
Silent Sentry: When sensors on passive, the crew are in stasis and the ship is simply on Sentry with most systems powered down, it is sufficiently low-powered to require a full post of military sensor activity to detect them at long and intermediate ranges.

The Kreetle-class Gunboat
Type: Trade Lane Protection Gunboat
Scale: Capital
Length: 50m
Crew: 2 (Bridge Crew - In suspended animation via an entropy field until combat is detected)
Droid Command Crew (Able to operate autonomous of control computer): 1 GD16-series pilot droid, 1 http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R1-series_astromech_droid
Droid Maintenance Crew (operate by control computer instructions: 20
Cost: Not for sale
Passengers: 4
Cargo Capacity: 10 Tons
Consumables: 1 year
Hyperdrive: Class 2
Backup: Class 12
Sublight: 75 MGLT
Atmospheric: 800 kph
Nav Computer: yes
Hull: YT2000
Shields: YT2000

Weapons
2 Heavy Laser Cannon Turrets
2 Ion Cannon Turrets
1 Turbolaser Cannon (forward)

Weaknesses

Arguably vulnerable to slicing attacks, especially if crew is in stasis.
Heavy Gunnery controlled mostly by the ships computers is not as reactive as organic controlled gunnery and has to be told to stop firing. I.e. Quad turbolasers will keep firing if told to fire on a given ship until there's no target left, so concentration needs to be applied at all time to ensure weapon systems arent causing severe damage to say, something youre trying to capture.
Hulls are not truly suitable for line combat and the ships are reliant upon their deflectors to protect them.

Essentially, these are what they say on the tins, anti-pirate pickets, skirmishers along the lines of the discril-class with the intention of driving off pirates but without being a true line ship. Their place is not in a proper battle and they'd suffer badly if they tried to make it there.

Then I propose commencement upon them since we're looking at other new designs now.

Across the board, these aren't bad ships. I'm rather enjoying the idea of them being droid operated sentries, more or less, with the crew activated once an issue occurs.

Now, with that being said, there are a few things that need a change:

1) The short-range fast-firing heavy turbolaser on the Wasp-class can either be quick firing at the cost of hitting power or it can be a heavy turret, but not both.

2)

Extremely High power Communiations and Sensor Array: Renders jamming extremely problematic for anything less than a Dreadnaught size ship, allows detection of ships arrival and class several seconds before they arrive in an area if active. Also allows extremely accurate gunnery. However, once shields are down this is an exceptionally easily destroyed or ionized component.

This in particular should not be limited to a 'Dreadnaught-sized ship' because certain smaller vessels can be engineered or equipped to be jamming-related or jamming-specific, with no other real function; rather the reverse of the comms corvette produced by Rothana.

1. Doesnt the short range make it rather more balanced? If it has half normal range compensates for it firing twice as fast.

2. Just "hard to jam" would do. Strikes me that pirates would not want them alerting the TDF of their presence and so the ships would doubly have reason to have facility to do so.

In regards to the cannon, I feel that short-range but fast firing is already a large boon, especially in an up-close scenario. So in a sense, your short-range makes up for a faster firing speed. Therefore, heavy is a large extra. I leave it up to you on which part you want to alter or fix.

In regards to the comms, I'm fine with that. No same-post jamming, etc.
