I would like to request Turbolaser Equivalent Power (TEP) become the standard benchmark in the RP when measuring energy weapon strength.

Turbolaser Equivalent Power (TEP): The number of turbolaser hits from a standard capital ship (may be referred to as Medium) turbolaser to which a hit from a given weapon is equivalent in energy/stopping power. TEP is based on the power of a single hit, not a volley of rounds.

Some charts

You get the point.

I'd completely missed this! My apologies! I do intend to weigh in on this one, because it does have its merits and downsides.

In short opinion, it has its merits, but the roleplay (much like AGW before it) has never necessitated an actual chart to go by. Until Jace weighs in on this, I'm putting it on hold.

The chart is just an illustration of the concept. It's essentially the concept of using turbolaser equivalency as an official benchmark I am requesting.

To the extent this is really a request in any formal sense, I must vote to DENY. But this is only because this system is ultimately a matter of our own interpretation; other interpretations may vary, sometimes necessarily so for one reason or another. In other words, I'd rather remain flexible on requests than be bound by this or any self-imposed, non-canon system. That being said, however, I've reviewed it in considerable detail and I've not found a flaw in it yet (though I'm not sure I would consider it thoroughly field-tested). It's quite useful in certain situations and I've used it informally several times (simply as a wide frame of reference) on requests. I commend the TEP system (and additionally I take perhaps 1% of the credit for it, since a comment from me about measuring firepower in equivalency to turbolasers got Jamie thinking along these lines, though it's fair to say the system was his idea and he's obviously done all the actual work).
