Mr. Vanden,

You may note that I've left both of our titles out of this message, because I approach you not as Duke of Baltimn to the Representative of Mandalorian Space, but as Drasek Cale to Artemis Vanden. Perhaps this is not the correct way to go about this business on which I am about to embark, but it seems a good start, and as it involves Mandalore, it is only fair that I felt I advise you of this.

In a very short time, I will be abdicating my position here on Baltimn; I'm not abandoning it completely, but the good Senator Stomwell and a few others I put faith in will be holding my land and home in trust for me, should I ever come back to it. The Republic has become a stagnant creature, Mr. Vanden, a creature I can no longer conscience, where politicians can bribe and buy one another out and no justice is done for those who need it. The Jedi that I saw fit to break company with are a part of that problem. Defenders of the peace and downtrodden they name themselves, but they'll no more push for slaves to not be taken from Ryloth than they will move for the betterment of the Outer Rim.

It sickens me.

Of all places a man could go that is not of the Republic, Mandalorian Space seems the easiest place a man can become anonymous. I will not come to you as Duke Drasek Cale of Baltimn, but as a worker, nameless and with only the skills I have acquired over years. You and I will likely never even cross paths.

I tell you this, Mr. Vanden, because you strike me as a fair man, and I can respect that.

Regards,

Drasek Cale
Former Duke of Baltimn
Former Jedi Knight

Dear Mr. Cale,

Your name is well-known to my people and held in high regard. I cannot agree more with your assessment of the Republic and particularly the Jedi Order. The Jedi have done much violence to my people in the past, Mr. Cale, and I abhor violence. Furthermore, the uncomfortably close relationship of the Jedi Order and the Republic calls into question whether church and state really are separate, and this is one of many reasons that Mandalore maintains its neutrality, rather than joining the Republic. To many people in this galaxy, Mr. Cale (perhaps especially to the people of Mandalore) you are a hero for leaving the Jedi Order, and would be welcomed as such.

I appreciate your desire for discretion and I will honor it if you insist, though I confess my instinct is to celebrate your re-location to Mandalore with an announcement, or perhaps even a press conference? If you would be interested, do let me know. But in any case, you are free to reside unmolested in New Mandalorian Space, my friend. Perhaps some day you might even entertain the possibility of a function in the New Mandalorian government (as popular as you are, I have no doubt that such a position will indeed be offered to you at some point).

Sincerely,

Artemis Vanden

Duke of Kalevala, New Mandalore, and the New Mandalorian Territories
Duly-appointed Mand'alor ("leader") of the Mandalorian People

Mr. Vanden,

While it would hardly bother me to answer questions to your press; indeed, it may even be amusing to an extent, I have no doubt the Jedi Order would soon be after me, so if I am to do such, it would be best if I vanished on one of your planets soon afterwards. I have been studying Mando'a, to a point. Hopefully it will be enough to get me by until I can learn more, to blend. Perhaps it would be best for all concerned if 'Drasek Cale' was never offered a position in your government, either; not only due to the ill will from the Jedi, but because, despite having cast off their chains, I once was a Jedi.

Either way, I am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Regards,

Drasek Cale

Dear Mr. Cale,

I will respect your wishes. I feel I must advise you on one point, however; Mando'a may be of some academic interest, but you should know it's generally not spoken in polite company these days. In fact, it is considered in New Mandalorian society to be something of a subversive tongue, spoken by so-called "True Mandalorian" rebels for political reasons. I advise you of this fact simply to avoid a potential faux pas. Coming from Baltimn, it is natural that it may take you some time to adjust to our ways, but I'm sure New Mandalorians will be understanding of this.

I hope and expect to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Artemis Vanden
