You and I have not always seen eye-to-eye. For instance, I know that you disagreed with the decision of your Council to stay out of the Lambda Sector, as I had requested. Nonetheless, you respected that decision and my reasons for it, and I appreciate that. You and I also disagree on your Order's appropriation of young children from their families to be trained as Jedi. I respect your reasons for this practice, and moreover, I understand that this practice is law. It is, however, a law that Eriadu finds objectionable—so much so, that they are prepared to endorse a legal concept ("nullification") by which Eriadu, or indeed any Republic world, can disregard any laws it doesn't like. This doctrine would destroy law and order in this Republic, and I'm hopeful that you will work with me to accommodate Eriadu on the child appropriation issue so that a confrontation can be avoided.
I am not demanding that your Order ceases the practice of child appropriation on Eriadu from now on. Rather, I am asking that you suspend the practice while a Commission is appointed to listen to all sides of the issue and make recommendations to the Senate. I propose that this Commission would be composed of three members; a representative of Eriadu, a diplomat appointed by me, and a Jedi of your choosing. I have prepared a proposal to present to the Senate along these lines, and I need to be able to tell the Senate that it has your support.
Please write back to me as soon as possible; I can't persuade Eriadu to wait for much longer.
