Excerpt Drawn from 'The Ruling Houses of Lorrd: Concerning House Stark'

"...they [the Houses] suffered a tremendous blow during the Kanz Disorders. Sixteen Houses, whose names are ever etched into the Plaque of the Fallen in Qatamer: Ratheson, Ymin, Althos, Sorenzen, Prospego, Lyrock, Janthers, Mortensen, Oligarth, Sempus, Vindek, Ermus, Wabben, Hershenk, Groven, and Freed; all cut out, root and branch, during those terrible times. It was only the Houses of Garth, Stark and Volmen that survived the purge and spread. In today's Lorrdian society, all three names are quite common, from the Garths of Lorrd, Argazda, and a dozen other worlds throughout the galaxy, to the Starks of Lorrd, Coruscant, Cambria and Empress Teta, to the Volmens of Lorrd, Dantooine, Alderaan and Chandrila. It is an interesting comparison to see how the surviving Houses spread during the intervening years. While the core of each remained on Lorrd, the Garths intermarried with Argazdans primarily, gaining favor with their work to repair the damage done during the Kanz Disorders. It is of note that no less than three Garths sit on Argazda's current Council of Nine. Many of House Garth's distant relatives expanded as independent traders and explorers (For more information, see article: The Ruling Houses of Lorrd: Concerning House Garth). House Volmen, known commonly as "the quiet House," turned towards the galaxy with an eye for galactic peace, seeking out farmlands and founding medical centers to assist those who had suffered in war. The Volmen Medical Center on Chandrila is rated as one of the top hundred medical centers within the galaxy (For more information, see article: The Ruling Houses of Lorrd: Concerning House Volmen). The final House, Stark, became something of a black sheep for a time on Lorrd. Whereas Garth and Volmen descendants went on to assist, House Stark advocated "the defense of Lorrd, above all else." Seeing themselves as the stewards of Lorrd, House Stark sent its members to Coruscant, where they served as diplomats and politicians for the Republic, as soldiers and fleet commanders for the Republic's armies and, perhaps most importantly, as businessmen and scholars. House Stark suffered a schism, however, between the Lorrdian Starks and the Coruscant Starks. While the reason for the schism remains unknown, save to the Starks, House Stark, led by Jerec Stark, parted ways with his brother, Quintus Stark of Coruscant. Despite the issues between them, both brothers prospered. The Starks under Jerec went on to Cambria, in the Deep Core, and, over time, grew to enough power to lay valid claim to the planet. Today, Cambria under the Starks has become a safe-world for those wishing to partake in its luxurious spas, outdoor resorts, varied sports events and casinos, all under the watchful eye of a multitude of defenses, rendering Cambria a truly neutral world in a galaxy filled with conflicts. The Starks under Quintus, however, remained on Coruscant, growing in the trade industry, political might and remaining autonomous of many other influences. Quintus made a home on Empress Teta where, despite accusations of 'Force using,' he married high into society, eventually coming to reside as one of the largest carbonite exporters on the world. His descendant, Quintus Stark II, still holds a majority sway in present day.
