We, the undersigned petition the Council of the Jedi Order for an explanation and apology.

The Jedi deposed the Pius Dea religion, much as there may have been crimes committed under their auspices, what authority did the Jedi have to take control of the Republic, specifically what mandate or legal authority did "Grand Master" Biel Ductavis have to assume the Chancellorship after deposing the legal incumbent via a bloody revolution involving mass espionage and persecution. Under the right circumstances, would the Jedi do the same again?

Was it right and legal for the Jedi regime have to religiously discriminate against the Pius Dea Sect and eject members from the Senate and Government based soley on their religion? Does the Jedi Order still endorse this type of discrimination?

Was the destruction of many hundreds of Pius Dea sites, including the Supreme Temple on Coruscant (of noted beauty and cultural value) merely because they disagreed with the Jedi? What jusfication can there be for such senseless cultural genocide?

We call upon the Jedi Council to recant it's huge number of Genocidal actions against the many (mostly innocent and harmless) Pius Dea Republic citizens who suffered untold hardship and even death because of the Jedi lead revolt. In the wake of the action, why were the Jedi not loving and magnanimous as they claimed to be, and instead continued destroying art, literature and architecture just because it was made by those of another faith.

We thus call for the apology to be followed by a renunciation of violence in all forms by the Jedi, the ceasing of bearing lethal arms in public, the promise not to use "mind tricks" of "the force" on those who do not consent to it, the renunciation of Republic funding which ultimately originates with their evil coup and the construction of a Memorial in the Jedi Temple to those who died or suffered from the violent Jedi uprising.

(Signed and written by Elon, also signed by around 2.5 million Eriadu Citizens, mostly those sharing his religion but also other humans galaxywide.)

To the Right Honorable Governor Tarkin of Eriadu et. al.,

The Jedi Council would find great academic value in a debate of the historical circumstances surrounding the ascension, in the 9,966th year before the Ruusan Reformation, of the very late Grand Master Biel Ductavis to the position of Supreme Chancellor in place of the Pius Dea-aligned convicted war criminal Chancellor Contispex XIX. The thousand-year tragedy of the "Pius Dea Crusades" in the years preceding this event were a dark and bloody time for the non-Human population of the galaxy, the end of which coincided with the end of Contispex's rule—the sacrifices of the Jedi Order in ending the Pius Dea Era were small in comparison to those of the Republic Navy, whose relentless prosecution of the Pius Dea cult helped to preserve the Rights of Sentience clause of the Galactic Constitution, a founding principle of the Republic to which the Jedi Order has always been committed—and Pius Dea was not.

Most scholars of Republic history agree that Master Ductavis' ascension as Supreme Chancellor would not be repeatable (or necessary) in the modern post-Ruusan Reformation era. The Jedi Order's support for the Ruusan Reformations is perpetual.

Master Tching is in deep meditation for the remainder of the week and, for health reasons, he must not be disturbed. In his absence, I have been authorized to speak on his behalf. I am certain that on his return, Master Tching will convene a meeting of the Jedi Council to compose a more specific response to the points you have raised, and I have no doubt the Council will be willing to host a public debate of the Pius Dea era featuring the scholars of the Jedi Order and its history (which I admit I am not) and to which the Governor would, of course, be welcomed.

May the Force be with you,

Tasha Zarnova, Jedi Knight
(on behalf of Master Sun Tching)

Governor Tarkin,

I write this independently, not as a member of the Jedi Order, nor as a Jedi, but as a citizen of the Republic. Before I begin, I must inform you that the Jedi Order is not taking a position on your petition. We are allowing your petition to sit on the value of its historical fact, or rather lack of. The Jedi Order is not a political body; we do not govern, and thus can not respond to your petition. All we can say is that we assure you that all Jedi in the galaxy are under the guidance of the High Council, which ensures that all Jedi are under sufficient oversight.

The Pius Dea are considered a fanatical cult which came to power via manipulation, corruption, and the assassination of a Supreme Chancellor, and proceeded to lead an unwilling Republic down the path of thirty genocidal, speciest crusades in the name of a "religion" for over a thousand years during a rule marked by bigotry, corruption, tyranny, oppression, and war crimes of unspeakable nature on an unimaginable scale. It was the rule of the Sith Empire, without the Sith. Some Jedi wonder if the Pius Dea were not a Sith plot, and if the traits of its cultists are to show anything, it lends credence to such a theory. The Pius Dea relentlessly persecuted innocent non-Humans in the name of religion, for the sake of plunder and their own satisfaction.

The Jedi are the protectors of the Republic, and the Pius Dea attempted to destroy it through subversion. There has been no censorship as Pius Dea apologists seem to favor claiming, for the Pius Dea have been left alone to stand on their historical merits. You ask me if the same would happen again? If a group like the Pius Dea led another coup and attempted to take over the Republic, the Jedi would do their duty, as would be expected of any other Republic citizen. I can assure you, Governor Tarkin, that the Pius Dea will never return to galactic power and any attempt to do so would be met with resounding and overwhelming force; and you can sleep soundly at night knowing this, as any Republic patriot would.

May the Force be with you,

Sun Tching

To the Jedi,

There was no Pius Dea Coup.

To quote the Encyclopedia Galactica.

"Contispex was a male Human politician and Senator[2] who was born on the planet Coruscant[1] and lived during the first ten thousand years of the Galactic Republic.[2] A prominent member of the Coruscant Merchants' Guild,[1] he became allied with Pius Dea, a conspiratorial, theocratic sect[2] that held many species and religions to be suspect,[4] founded several hundred years prior.[2] In 11,987 BBY,[1] Pius Dea impeached the Republic's[2] Bothan[5]Supreme ChancellorPers'lya,[2] and Contispex was elected as the new Chancellor, with a mandate to clean up corruption in the Galactic Senate, the Republic's governing body.[1] "

You are telling us, then, that the Jedi would use force against a peaceful religion if it once again became more common? That is noted.
