Later, many would find themselves surprised that Njon the Hutt had lived as long as he did. Subsiding on a generous diet of terk hide (a notoriously greasy dish), and having no shortage of enemies who wanted him dead, Njon's life expectancy was perhaps somewhat shorter than the 500 years his species was capable of living. Nonetheless, he had the characteristic patience of his species, and Njon—rather young at a mere 305 years old—had been quite patient indeed as he'd orchestrated his rise to power in the Hutt Cartel. It had taken him nearly 100 years. Once in a great while, he had assassinated some rival or other, but more often than not he'd simply waited for them to die. It was somewhat ironic to consider, then, that all of it could be undone in an instant. That Njon Anjiliac's reign as the leader of the Cartel could end as quickly (and unceremoniously) and his life did.

Njon Anjiliac did die as he lived, however. It was rare that he left the safety of his palace on Nar Shaddaa, but when he'd departed for a pleasure cruise of the Si'Klaata Cluster, he had brought all the comforts of home with him on his yacht. Dining, as ever, on terk hide, Njon enjoyed a tail massage from a wonderfully rotund Askajian woman to the accompaniment of a soulful tune on the yacht's observation deck. In that moment, admiring the Askajian's half-dozen ample breasts, Njon decided that he was surely the happiest being in the galaxy. Unfortunately, it was also in that moment that the pilot of Njon's yacht, having been told not to disturb the Hutt for several hours, had dosed up on spice and failed to notice the proximity alarm as a meteor shower headed straight for the ship.

The civilian-grade shields on the yacht failed almost immediately, and the ship's hull became pockmarked with meteorite-sized breaches. According to legend, there had been a great migration of the Hutt species through deep space to settle, eventually, on their adopted homeworld of Nal Hutta. Njon had never wanted to find out whether his species was capable of surviving a vacuum, however it wasn't the vacuum that killed him but, rather, being sucked through an observation window far too small for his girth. Njon, in that instant, undoubtedly bore an unpleasant resemblance to a tube of toothpaste. A smelly, freeze-dried purée of Hutt, terk hide, and an unfortunate Askajian woman would be recovered later, along with the remains of Njon's yacht drifting in space.

In the days that followed, news of Njon's untimely demise would be a valuable commodity. Those few beings who knew Njon was dead would be in the best position to capitalize on the fact. His might have been a rather slender corpse, but Njon the Hutt would leave a large opening in the leadership of the Hutt Cartel, far larger than the one he'd exited through. Who would replace him? Only time would tell.

News of Njon Anjiliac's death soon dripped through the Hutt's organization like sand through a sieve, and Neese, Njon's right-hand Rodian, made prudent use of the small amount of time he had before the Hutt's death became common knowledge to disappear completely from Hutt Space. With Njon dead, Neese probably knew more about his late employer's operations than anyone else—the so-called distilleries, the mine on Ryloth, not to mention where the bodies were buried. This made Neese uniquely well-positioned to take over said operations, but it also made him a high-value target to everyone else who wanted to do so. And Neese wasn't interested in a power play.

Back on Nar Shaddaa, as Neese hastily gathered his belongings from Njon's Lucrehulk-class palace ship, it occurred to him how simple it would be to take a lifetime's supply of spice with him and sell it elsewhere, perhaps the Corporate Sector. He could make a small fortune and then spend the remainder of his days on the beaches of Spira. But Neese knew himself too well; he knew that he'd fall back into his old habits, dip into the spice himself, and probably die of an overdose. That was the fate that Neese was headed toward with Njon improbably saved him from himself. Neese supposed that he was grateful to the Hutt for that, but he wouldn't miss Njon Anjiliac or this life. And so he made the most important decision of his life—he walked away, from it all.

Many years ago, as an aspiring actor in the Rodian theater, Neese had been told that he "fails as an actor because he lacks the emotional maturity of someone who had encountered any real adversity in his life." A lot had changed since then, and perhaps now he would adopt a stage name and try acting again. Or perhaps not. Either way, Neese, as far as anyone knew, would never be seen again.

The News of Njon's death soon spread throughout the Hutt Cartel, reaching the ears of one young Hutt (in Hutt years) named Borozin the Hutt. The Hutt was 200 years old, which meant he had just reached the full adulthood in the Hutt life cycle. Borozin was a low-level crime lord that resided on Nar Shaddaa, making "business deals" in the Refugee Sector and such. He was going to slowly climb up the ranks of the Cartel, slowly building up his wealth and influence of which may take years. However, with Njon's death, all that changed. Borozin knew he might not have an opportunity for a long time before he make a power play at the top position of the Hutt Cartel. Thus, he diverted from a trait that usually associated with the Hutts, and that is patience.

Borozin would slither to confer with some of his top lieutenants in order to devise a plan to build himself as the most credible Hutt to take over the Cartel, despite his age.
