Your Honor,

I trust you're aware of the explosive development in the Senate this evening. Lorrd Engineering, Inc. has apparently entered into a wide-ranging trade deal with the slave-holding Senex Sector in clear violation of Republic sanctions. This revelation outrages me personally as someone whose opposition to slavery is well-known. It's been brought to my attention that you share my outrage and that you're preparing to launch legal proceedings against Lorrd Engineering and its CEO, a Mr. Alyn Stark. I cannot agree more with the need for prompt enforcement of Republic law, lest this Republic is seen to be abandoning one of its founding principles—the Rights of Sentience.

To strengthen the case against Mr. Stark, I have prevailed upon Senator Kongming to dispatch a fact-finding mission to the Senex Sector to gather evidence and report its findings to the Judiciary within one standard week. I would only ask of you that any indictments or other legal action against Mr. Stark be delayed during this time so that the entirety of the evidence can be brought to bear and the case against Mr. Stark be made as incontrovertible as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Jaso Pryce
Senator of Metellos and Supreme Chancellor Emeritus
Chairman of the Internal Activities Committee
Esteemed Member of the Trade Commission

The factfinding mission is wise. As soon as it retuns and if the Judicial Dept decides to prosecute we will be able to quickly move to trial. However, there are so many trials which now could occur, since Lord Stark appears to have passed some culpability on to Lorrdian officials. Clear evidence will allow an open and close trial of Republic vs Stark would be desirable determine the outcome of the possible Republic vs x involved individuals.

The civil suits and tribunals for this could be widespread too, and will hang on the outcome of the initial finding in a Republic vs Stark case.

Naturally, I approve of the factfinding mission, and while there is already evidence to issue indictments and arrest warrants, I won't do so until the full body of evidence is before me; I shall conduct myself with a solemn and even handed scrutiny of all the facts before coming to a decision.

Your Excellency

May I request we be able to proceed with issuance of warrants presently?

I am told that sufficient time has elapsed and the investigatory commission has published its results. The bench are extremely anxious that the system of sanctions we impose on the Senex Juvex are to be effectively void unless we take action. I believe I speak for the bench of the Supreme Court when I make this assertion.

I'm not commenting on any possible guilt but I am told the that Alsakan intends to bring a private prosecution, swiftly. And I would sooner see the prosecution in the hands of more reasonable and amenable Republic prosecutors than the firebrands of the Core's self appointed moral arbiters.

Sincerely

The Honorable Justice Leoten Eddicus

Jusice Eddicus,

I believe we have sufficient evidence at this time, as you have noted. Unless the Chancellor objects, I believe you may issue the relevant warrants and place Mr. Stark under arrest.
