Kruus Expands Lead, Expected to Win Election

Senate Rotunda, Coruscant — Luneray Kruus, Senator of the Humbarine Sector, has expanded his lead over opposing candidate Zaizhi Kongming (Duro Sector) in the second of three days of voting for Supreme Chancellor. With more than 72% of the Senate having voted for Mr. Kruus, The Coruscant Journal now expects him to win the election.

In a surprising turn of events, Senator Roman Lekpin (Lorrd), who withdrew from the race amid allegations of hypocrisy and declared his support for Mr. Kongming, voted for Mr. Kruus instead, referring to the Neimoidian as "the popular choice." Despite having urged his supporters to vote for Mr. Kongming, many of them, including Senators Ciaran (Chandrila) and Onasi (Telos IV) had also cast their votes for Mr. Kruus.

The abandonment of Mr. Kongming by Lekpin and his predominantly Human base of supporters is a major blow to Kongming's candidacy from which the Duro may be unable to recover.

In further developments on the Senate floor, Senator Tu'rot (Lantillies) voted enthusiastically for Mr. Kruus, as did Prentiss Cynum, the Representative of the Trade Federation, noting that "the consensus opinion across the galaxy supports a Kruus candidacy."

Today's voting also saw the emergence of a minority Humanocentrist bloc, however. Senator Hayes (Taris) and Senator Stubbs (Riaoballo Sector) announced they wouldn't vote for either Kruus or Kongming. "It is not unreasonable to want a Chancellor who can relate to Humans, the plurality species of the galaxy," Mr. Hayes said. Both he and Mr. Stubbs are reported to be lobbying the Alderaan and Corulag delegations to join the Humanocentrist bloc, though it is not expected to influence the result of the election.

With one day remaining, nearly three hundred delegates have yet to vote. The Coruscant Journal's Election Year 908 "Year of Decision" coverage will continue to bring you all of the votes as they come in.
