Jedi Master Killed in Ando Dispute
Ando — A Jedi Master has been killed on a mission to mediate a dispute between the planet Ando and its colony worlds in the Lambda Sector, the Jedi Temple has announced. Izvolska Nataya, a 47-year-old Human, had been a Jedi Master for fourteen years. Her Jedi starfighter was ambushed and destroyed while returning from a meeting with representatives of Ando's government. Ando and the self-styled Andoan Free Colonies have each blamed the other for Nataya's death.
Nataya is the first Jedi to be killed in action since Jedi Master Qornah, 96 years ago. A memorial service will take place at the Jedi Temple on Satunda. Many Jedi, including Masters Yoda, Tching, and Nataya's apprentice, Jace Varitek, will be in attendance.
Conflict has been brewing in the Lambda Sector since the Andoan Free Colonies, settled by the Aqualish species ten years ago, have demanded greater independence from the Aqualish homeworld of Ando. The Aqualish have been involved in many inter-planetary disputes, including the Aqualish-Republic War of nearly 15,000 years ago. The Jedi Council dispatched Master Nataya to Ando and its colony worlds to prevent the dispute from escalating into another, bloody war.
Supreme Chancellor Pryce, who had previously asked the Jedi not to intervene in the Ando dispute, released a statement today on Master Nataya's death. "My condolences to the Jedi Order for this tragic loss," the statement read, in part. "As the Republic investigates what happened to Master Nataya, I strongly urge all parties to the current dispute, including the Jedi Order, not to act on this incident. Facts must precede any actions."
The Chancellor is expected to address the Senate about the incident in today's session, and the Jedi Council will hold a late-night session to discuss its response. The Coruscant Journal will continue to follow the story as it develops.
